Where 2 stay Miami area

Ok here's the deal. Just yesterday I found tickets from Chicago to Miami on NYE for $123 round trip. The price seemed so good that I just bought them not knowing for sure if we'd even go(wife and 12 yr old) My question now is if we do go, what area should we stay in? We'd like a nice walking beach as well as to be able to walk to restaurants, shops and such at night.(we're a pretty foward thinking family but I do want a safe area that is appropriate for a 12 yr old as well) A good pool should be available and possibly a room with a kitchenette too. Am I asking to much? I guess if we can do our own simple breakfast and maybe lunch once or twice in(6 nights) then I could justify $450- $500 per night. Any suggestions on area and hotel property please?

Hi Michael,
Great price on tickets - don't blame you for snatching those up.
I'm assuming that your going soon. My husband and I like to stay just a little north of South beach (Sobe). It seems as though you get a little more for your money, your still on a beach/boardwalk and can get by foot to Lincoln Ave.and Sobe. - both have many shops and resturants. You'll also on good bus lines (very clean, safe and run often) if you feel the need to go elsewhere, as having a car can be a burden in this area. You should be able to find a decent room at any of those hotels on that strip for what your willing to pay although most I fear, may not have a kitchenette. The Fountainbleu (sp.) seems to be child friendly and is in the vacinity that I'm referring to. We usually rent a room or suite with a kitchenette/pool etc. in that area from cyberental.com. directly from an owner. There are countless condos in that area. Hope that helps.

The Royal Palm is indeed quite nice. It's in South Beach itself, so the lodging money doesn't go as far as up north at, say, the Eden Roc-- but it's a nice place. It's no longer a Crowne Plaza, however-- Sol Meliá Hotels has bought it.
