Airfares may not drop much this summer. Planes coming to the islands are flying nearly full already and summer bookings are strong.
After 9/11 United retired all of their old 747's flying to Honolulu and replaced them with smaller, more efficient 767's, 777's, and 757's. All of the carriers reduced their number of flights per week so there are fewer seats available this year than last year.
Aloha is adding three new flights to the mainland, Hawaiian has a new flight to Phoenix and Seattle, United has added a new non-stop from Denver but it will take some time to be back at last year's lift.
