airfare woes
Being following your posts for a while at the Fodor’s site, just thought I’d ask a quick question directly as you obviously are the most knowledgeable around.
We’ve been hoping to go to Kauai in Aug this yr, my leave and my wife’s school schedule restricts us to the first 2 weeks and we wanted to fly from Atlanta for 10 days during this period.
I’ve been following the airfare diligently over the past 2-3 months waiting for a break, last month is came down a bit to $741 and I continued to wait hoping for a lower rate but now it’s back up to around $900.
Have I missed my chance? Was $741 the best that can be expected for this time of year? Would really appreciate some advice from those of you with more experience.

Hey, I'd rather be sailin' too! Love the name.
Check America West Airlines. (You can search through the usairways.com site, since the airlines merged.) They're having a sale on Hawaii, and ATL to LIH is going for as little as $616 before taxes.) You can search your exact dates through the usairways website, or if your dates are somewhat flexible, search by price on travel.yahoo.com.
Have fun in Kauai!

Did you check travel.yahoo.com as suggested? Search "flexible dates" and the $616 fare is near the middle of the page (it's the lowest fare valid in August...the first few fares above it start in September) . Then go into the date selector and see what's available within your time frame.

Sometimes if you miss that little dip by not booking early then you have to hope for the more last minute deals. Usually, Travelzoo starts showing some amazing things for August in July...even if you had to book flights into Honolulu and then book a "hop" over, it might work out for you. BUT you have to have nerves of steel to wait so late and I usually can't do it!
