DH is stuck in the weekend traffic. So the kids and I are impatiently waiting for him. I have the grill fired up and steaks waiting, but he will stop and get some cold salad of some sort.

The more I think about it, a margarita would taste reeeeaaalllly good right about now!

Statia--No, the flag has not been found yet, lol! Love your story though. My dh retired from the Navy last year, and his retirement flag is in a huge shadowbox with all his medals and such, so we just use a regular store bought flag normally. I did think about bringing out the huge flag that flew on the carrier...but we would need a massive pole for that, lol!

Nannymer--It is nice to hear of your dh participating in the parade. You are right about this group...everyone is great!

Nope, not traveling... Have to work part of the weekend - so I can afford to take two trips this summer!

My poison is my favorite inexpensive shiraz - Columbia Crest, made in the good old US of A in WA, not too far from Portland, where Miss Scarlet can probably get it even cheaper than I do.

Happy Memorial Day everyone. Wishes that you all have an enjoyable and safe three day weekend.

And blessings to all who ever sacrificed to give us the life that we have. May our current troops be safe and come home as soon as possible. And to all the families of military people that have sacrificed in one way or another, may they be remembered.

My poison is a vodka martini, or maybe it is a gibson?? Anway, vodka over ice with a couple of cocktail onions. Yummy, especially since I finally turned the a/c on and so it is cool and relaxing now.

Best wishes to everyone. And Statia, thanks for always starting this thread. It is a joy!

Hey there Austin...good to hear from you since I don't "see" ya as often as I used to, but know you are busy.

DH and friend went "out" awhile ago and wanted me to come along. As much as I wanted to, I know how that song goes. I am sure that by staying home and being a "good girl" I will be feeling better than they will at 4:45 a.m tomorrow, so I'm just chilling out and listening to various classic rock & roll while checking in on message boards and the St. Maarten Sunset Beach Bar webcam once in awhile (haven't been THERE in ages, although I'm on the island often).

Watching those people makes me think more about going to bed here shortly.

It's nearly 1 am here in California. I'm having a glass of Macrostie Chardonnay and unwinding after a break neck night at the hospital.Over a 6 hour period we all worked immensely hard to bring a little boy back from the brink! It worked!

After evenings like this, it does take a while to unwind. Wine in glass,Fodors before me and a sense he will be OK allows me to unwind well. His Dad visited with him at the close of my shift and whispered sweet things to his son like "Hi, I'm Poppa".

I'm travelling nowhere but to the hospital this holiday weekend. The new couch gets delivered tomorrow before I leave so I might travel from cushion to cushion

Hi PamSF. thank God for people like you! I always think of nurses as angels. I hope you enjoy your new couch, it is so much fun to get new furniture! Take care and best wishes to you.

We weren't going anywhere b/c my parents were supposed to come here. My grandmother passed away two weeks ago, however, so they were up then. So it's a quiet weekend. My poison last night (which I expect to continue through the weekend) was margaritas - yum!

Hi, Statia and fellow Fodorites! I'm lounging on my sofa right now with my laptop, relaxing in the knowledge that I'm not traveling anywhere on the crowded roads and in the crowded airports! Now that my teenage sons have finished their finals (yesterday), I'm ready for it to be calmer around here.

We'll head to New England/Canada in about 3 weeks, and I'm looking forward to spending the long weekend researching details about our trip.

My poison this morning is a nice cup of tea.

Happy Memorial Day weekend to everyone else who's not traveling!

Susan

Mornin' glories!

The husband has had an especially hectic schedule of late so our plan is to rest and relax at home this weekend.

Today, we are going to the San Antonio Museum of Art to check out the new Asian art wing as well as the new Chihuly ceiling installation.

There are thunderstorms and rain in the area which made for a very cozy morning to sleep in until the cat decided it was time for us to get up and began marching all over us--is it instinct that tells them where the human bladder is located?

I hope everyone enjoys a great weekend!

Glad you enjoy the thread, LoveItaly. It's always nice to hear from you.

Pam, what a night you must have had and I agree...thank God for people like you who save lives on a daily basis.

Radio, sorry to hear about your grandmother.

Bellairegirl, I hope the heat up there hasn't gotten too bad yet. It's already gotten pretty hot here and the high humidity lately (which is something we never really have much of here) has reminded me much of Houston.

dcespedes, love the bladder comment.

All day Friday was spent replenishing the liquids....with water only.

Thursday was a very good day in Yountville and Sonoma so we dried out Friday...and now on to Sacto's Jazz Jubilee today and tomorrow.

Got my "Fodor's Button" from Trish's and B'man's NYC/NJ GTG and my dancin', drinkin' shoes all packed.
Gotta make up for lost time.

AND...I hope to not have to travel to any ailing relative's or friend's house for a LOOOONG time!!!

We just got back from visiting my dad in the Sierra foothills, with stops at the Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Bass Lake, Vegas, and Hoover Dam, so we're staying put this weekend. Dh has inventory at work Tuesday (his normal day off) so it wouldn't have been a good time to travel anyway. We do plan to go to a Memorial Day service Monday.

I had a delicious cup of coffee a while ago and am drinking water at the moment.
