What a great list. Congrats again! We're currently booked for Kauai in Feb. 2015...yes a long time away, but if you can believe it a lot of the condos and flights are already booked! It'll be 5 years since we've been to Kauai so we're going to really rediscover it on this trip thanks to your info and all your trip reports! Congratulations!!

Songdoc: We are doing the boat tour July 31, my brother's 30th bday. We booked it and are keeping it a surprise! Thanks for the sunset lookout tip!

tifa: Have you picked a condo yet? Staying on the north shore all week? I have been keeping up with you on 'a splash of aloha' and I can't wait to read about your trip to Bali! How exciting!

louistraveler: Thanks!! You're probably the one other person who reads my blog! LOL. I'm not sure where to stay yet...I'm looking at condos on vrbo, flipkey etc...but still deciding. I would like an ocean view and air conditioning though (which leaves out sealodge, bummer) so working around those requirements. Would you say Princeville in February is ok or do you think I should get a something more in the south? Last time we did not stay in the north but split our time between Kapaa and Poipu and both were lovely too. I'm gonna post some pictures from our last Kauai trip on my blog soon! BTW, your next trip is coming up soon! Can't wait to read about your new/old adventures on Kauai!

You just made my day...I checked your blog and to my surprise your Kauai trip was there for me to enjoy! The pictures were amazing!

Our first trip in 2007, we did the split stay of north/south. Since then we only stay north!
I like other parts of the island but I LOVE the north so I couldn't go without staying there! As for February, Songdoc has been many times in Jan/Feb and had glorious days of sunshine. I would recommend the north/south split. From your 2010 report, you know the surf will be too high and rough for swimming at the north shore. I would stay north for a few days since you never have then south to allow for swimming and other aspects of the island.

As for a/c...that may be hard to find in a condo. I don't know of any that have a/c. I checked accuweather for temps in Feb: http://www.accuweather.com/en/us/pri...onyr=2/01/2014 This is for Princeville. I really think you would be okay without a/c. I am from Texas and I like my a/c and we have been good on every trip without it. All of our condos have had ceiling fans and oscillating fans. One time we had to buy from Wal-Mart then return it. We sleep with a fan at night for noise more than air.

As for condo suggestions, try these websites:

http://www.summitpacificinc.com/
North Shore, I am always at the Sealodge except this trip I will be at Ali'i Kai. The one time we stayed south, we were at Kuhio Shores. The Poipu Shores looks really nice but pricey!

I would be happy to help further, just ask!

Songdoc I went to Tassie last year for just over a week. It is beautiful and has a lot of natural beauty. I drove from Hobart to Launceston and stopped at Wineglass bay for a couple of days. Really enjoyable hike and not difficult though uphill.

Thanks for your Kauai tips.

Where are you staying in Kauai? Is somewhere near Hanalei Bay better to stay than Poipu. I like sunshine and warm weather and water if that helps.

I'm being quick because I'm getting ready to leave for the airport to return to Kauai. I LOVED Tassie, and the hike at Wineglass Bay, too.

I always stay on Kauai's North Shore. If you want an inexpensive condo with spectacular views check out Sealodge in Princeville. I'll be there in about 17 hours! It's a very short drive from there to Hanalei Bay. There are many other condos for rent in Princeville, as well. Some people complain that Princeville is too "manicured" but I find it a perfect location and very beautiful.

The conventional wisdom is to stay in Poipu during the winter because the water is calmer and there is more sunshine that time of year. But I don't love Poipu--and a DO love the North Shore, so that's where I stay every time of year. It does get more rain, but much of that rain comes during the night -- or in very brief showers. Believe me, I would not keep going back if it was always raining! I'm a big hiker and nature person and for me, nothing compares with the beauty of Kauai's North Shore. In the unlikely event that it's consistently rainy in the North--and sunny in Poipu, it's only an hour's drive.

Now, I'd better stop typing and head to the airport!!

I agree with Songdoc about the spectacular beauty of the north shore, really, I don't know what to compare it to, but we always stay in Poipu because we like the fact that the hotels are on the beach (meaning sea level rather than high above on a cliff, which is rare for the north shore).

I can hardly believe almost two years have passed since the wedding. Today, we visited the spot where we said "I do" on Hanalei Bay. We're still married ;-) -- and Hanalei Bay is still just as beautiful.

Kauai is sure a nice and small island. We went there in December 2015 and it was a great experience. If you are interested, you can read our experiences and photos in our blog.

Bookmarking, so glad someone topped this. Belated congratulations Songdoc. Sounds like you created a great plan for your family and friends. We had another family member move to Kauai this year so I am going to refer to this as we plan more visits.

Thanks, Scootoir. I'm glad this is helpful. I'm on Kauai right now and once again, have enjoyed almost all the things on my list. I'll add a nice, long, flat walk: The Wai Koa Loop. It's not "wow," but very relaxing and pleasant--and the dam is magical. Enjoy your trips!

Songdoc; As usual, a little late to the party, but congrats. Great to make it thru 2 years, but how about 56 this year?

Anyways, great info and we will be on Kauai on Jan. 30th, departing on Feb. 5th, 5 nights.

Our long time friends that we travel with will meet us in Waikiki for 3 nights and then spend 3 nights on Kauai.

They go to Hawaii practically every year. Both of us will be staying at the Sheraton in Kauai.

We stay at the Princess in Oahu and they stay across the street, their hotel being on the ocean.

We stayed at the Princess last January and loved the staff. Even thought the hotel needs an update, they gave us room 1960, the year we were married by coincidence.

When I mentioned it to the front desk, we ended up with a bottle of champagne or wine--I forget.

iris1745: 56 years????? WOW! Congratulations.

I hope you have a wonderful trip.

We just returned from Kauai and it was so beautiful to walk by the spot on the beach at Hanalei Bay where we married, and to relive something I truly never dreamed I would live to see.
