deebers, that's interesting. I gave up on Costco after trying about a dozen times for various rentals. Nearly every other code I used -- whether it was from Mousesavers, something in an email from American Airlines, or various other sources always seemed to be better. And of course, their rates don't touch Hotwire!

Incidentally, I arrived in Ft Myers Monday and picked up my Hotwire car from Hertz. The girl was basically pretty obnoxious trying to sell me an upgrade and wouldn't take no for an answer. Did she really think I'd pay an EXTRA $175 a day for a Mercedes convertible (regularly $250 more per day she said), or even working down to $18 a day extra for a Buick Regal. But when I firmly insisted "just give me what I paid for" (a mid size like a Toyota Corolla -- she gave me the keys and told me my space. It's a Mazda 5 SUV, which is really great. Normally I might not want it, but since I'm here and doing some pick ups, etc., it's really coming in handy.

I HATE dealing with those kinds of rental agents. I watched one "work" a family at Newark one time--they were foreign and were just getting more and more confused because of the agent.

You can find lowest price on websites where you can compare rates and on those providing various suppliers' offers. Hotwire and Expedia had been already mentioned, you can look at economybookings as well. The main thing is to book in advance, that's for sure.

I find the cheapest rental is through my auto insurance company (USAA). You might check your own company to see if they offer any good deals.
