Miami Airport Car Rentals

I've been researching car rentals from MIA - why are they so expensive?? At any rate, the best I could come up with was $64.99/day, mid-size, with All Day Rent-A-Car. Has anyone rented from them in the past? Can we readily catch their shuttle to their off-site property?

That sounds very expensive. For how long? Where will you be returning it? Is that for one day including all taxes and fees?

On my trip to Miami last year I found the same thing as you - on airport rental car prices were very high. I didn't need a car for the 1st day, so I took taxi to my hotel, then rented from Avis Miami Beach a day later and saved a lot of $$.

Try EZ Car Rental - we've used them all over Florida and been very happy with their services and prices.

I have the same problem with expensive car rentals. A couple of things I have learned: play around with the return times; sometimes a few hours puts you into another day.

Perhaps you can stay at a hotel with a free shuttle to the airport. Then you can return the car the night before flying out.

As to off-airport branches, check to be sure they are open on weekends, if that is when you are picking up or returning the car. There is a large cost to returning to another site.

Good luck.

There have been several posts regarding high car rental prices in a variety of cities. I just returned from West Palm Beach area and paid about that much per day for a compact over a long weekend - I was used to incredibly cheap FL car rentals but it seems those days are gone.

Its high season in FL due to Spring Break, SPring Training. I believe Fl also just increased the taxes on rental cars for the state. ALso, think that the taxes were increased in Miami to pay for the new Marlins Stadium.

Thanks for the info. EZ Car rentals were $88.00/day for a mid-size. We're going Easter weekend - that is probably why the costs are high. Airfare was, too!

I think I agree with gail that the incredibly cheap car rentals of Florida may be gone forever, and admittedly you're looking at a really bad week. For years I've done many one day, one way rentals for about $25 total (Naples to Ft. Lauderdale or Miami or vice versa), but I'm looking for one now in June and can't find ANY for under $100! Seems they're also now adding drop off fees which they never used to do. But that's a 400% increase from what I'm used to!
