What to wear in Oct. NYC-need walking shoes
Going to the NY in a couple weeks and i need some specific info. I have been there several times and I never have fashionable walking shoes. The only comfortable ones I own are white leather tennis shoes. I am 40 and like to dress trendy. Need people to give me a specfic shoe and website if possible. Going to Elaines for drinks and appetizers- Is it appropriate to wear dark jeans, heels, and a spaghetti strap top with a few sequins? Top too much? Jeans not enough? Thanks for the help.

Yes, very dressed up jeans with sequins and heels will be lovely.
As far as walking shoes, go buy a pair. I have a black pair of Puma trainers, a pair of Nike Cole-Haan trainers, and a pair of Prada walking shoes I use.
I take my dress shoes in my bag (I carry a messenger bag) along with a scarf and a smaller dressier handbag.

Elaine's is very casuale. You will see people wearing anything BUT holey jens and giant white sneakers. Your outfit will be fine.
For trekking around town shoes I use mostly Skechers MaryJanes - which have gotten lot of "Where did you get those?" which I think is evern better than compliments. My stepdaughters suggested them - they wear them too - come in all colors and are cute enough for anything casuale - but really comfy to walk in.

Hey nytraveler & most everyone- I know you wont make fun of me for asking this. I bought a black pair of walking shoes/sneakers pretty close to what you suggested. Afraid if I wear them without socks-blisters. I really don't wear walking shoes without socks. What color socks wouldnt look nerdy with my shoes and shorts or capris. It may be alot warmer than I first thought. Thanks

What kind of black walking shoes/sneakers did you buy? I would only wear puma or puma-style black sneakers to begin with. If they are low top, lace up Reeboks, return immediately!
In terms of socks - they sell socks that are roughly the same cut as peds. They are very low, below the ankle, and you can get them in black. Do not wear white socks or any other color with black shoes, especially if you're ankles will be exposed.
A lot of my friends (self included) bought the puma speed cats last winter, and they are fantastic. I typically avoid buying black sneakers for the sock factor, and you can get these in neutral colors like grey, sage green, or chocolate brown

I bought those same ones a few years ago in pink - good choice! I'm a puma freak, in case youc couldn't tell Those are super comfortable and great walkign shoes. I would still recommend getting the really low ankle socks in either black or gray. Or skipping socks altogether.
These are kind of expensive, but to give you an idea:
