What to tip at a NYC spa?

Hi,

I'm assuming tips are expected at NYC spa. Is that correct? Is 10 percent or 15 percent is the norm?

I don;t do spas - but tip 20% at nail salons and hairdresser plus $5 for the shampoo girl.

Ooof. Okay. 20 percent it is. (I come from a country where people don't tip!)

Don;t forget that on top of tipping we also have sales tax that isn't included in posted prices.

Yes, thank you. I will pay the bill with a credit card, but I wanted to know how much cash to give the people who did the work.

An appropriate tip is 15%-20%, but deciding beforehand what a tip will be is like salting food before tasting it. I tip 15% to those who don't screw up and 20% to those who especially please me for one reason or another.
