We will have 2 days to spend in NYC next week. What would you suggest as an itinerary?

Any City bus tour you would suggest? We are not into museums but would like to see the usual tourist attractions.

Thanks

I would suggest you visit the plethora of NYC websites, take advantage of the resources within THIS website, and otherwise spend a little time and effort researching for your trip! Otherwise, just check with the Concierge at your hotel once you've checked in.

I'm sure Mark was only trying to be helpful, but I assume the posted was not asking for a custom itinerary, but suggestions from those in the know on what to see and what to avoid. It might help if you added some specific interests? History, Art, Theater, Architecture, or Shopping(which bores me to tears)??

I love the Frick and think it is a must see for a first time visitor, but some people are not too thrilled by art museums. I also love to just stroll through Central Park, sit on a bench and people watch with a hot dog in hand. Brooklyn Bridge stoll is also a pleasant way to pass some time......

Thanks for your suggestions. I have found some helpfull information on this site and others but I guess that what I'm really looking for is suggestions on itineraries

Here is an itinerary that I found, it looks like a lot to cover in such a short period of time:

Day one: Bus tour of the City, Lincoln Center, Dakota Opera, Central Park, Harlem, 5th Avenue, Rockfeller Center, Greenwich Village, Soho, Little Italy

Lunch

Murlberry Street, Chinatown, Canal Street, Wall Street, Ground Zero, South Street Seaport (Pier 17),

Day two: Empire State Building, Manhattan Mall, St-Patrick Cathedral, FAO Schwartz, Radio City, Statue of Liberty

We are traveling with our 12 & 16 yr old

Forget the bus tours, take subways, taxi's and walk. I suggest the following:
Day one: early walk through Central Park, Metropolitan Museum of Art (free hour tour is very cool and you get to see a lot in short time - check for schedule on their web site, see about a yankee game (subway again), and/or do the empire state building. I would recommend the later for night. Also call and get tickets to a taping of the Conan O'Brian show. Day 2. Lady Liberty & Ellis Island, Ground Zero, Wall St (free tour) Enjoy!

Thanks dcp, your suggestions sound excellent! Can't get tickets for the Conan O'Brian Show though because you have to be 16 or older to get a ticket. Any other show you could suggest?

Day 1 - take subway to tip of Manhattan. Take Staten Island Ferry (free) and sail by Statue of Liberty and view the City Skyline on the return trip. Walk up Broadway past Ground ZEro and continue walking north through Chinatown, Little Italy, SOHO and GReenwich VIllage. Total walking distance less than 4 miles and with lunch in Little Italy this should take the better part of the day.

Day 2 - Start day at Empire STAte building. WAlk up 5th Ave past NY Public Library, Rockefeller Center, St.. PAtrick's CAthedral and FAO to Central Park. CRoss park to Central Park WEst and 72nd ST to the Dakota. Total distance is about 2 1/2 miles. Then subway to 125th in Harlem followed by same train back to 42nd - Times Square. If interested indicate where you will be staying and specific directions will be forthcoming.

The correct spelling is FAO SCHWARZ.....every New Yorker knows that there is NO ''t' in Schwarz.

Even thought it is spelled Houston, the correct pronounciation is How-ston.....not Houston like in Texas.

And remember the the numerical streets run consecutively uptown....i.e. 38, 39, 40, 41.

Thanks to all, I really appreciate your help.

x, I did not realize that the Staten Island Ferry was free! Sounds like a great itinerary. I will print it and take it along.

We will be staying in Secaucus, NJ and take the NJ transit to NYC
