Hopefully the rain will hold off here after 10" this month. I'll work in the yard, clean the house, go to the high school girls' soccer sectional playoff game, and on Monday, go to the big Memorial Day Parade with the rest of the town.

Believe it or not, first year in a while no one is going to a soccer tournament. Miss the 5 yrs. when son's team was in tournaments (he's Old now, at 24), don't miss all the tournaments where DH referees. He gets exhausted and sunburned (sunblock just melts and drips, no matter what we do); I get bored.

So THIS year, we're popping down to Wrightsville Beach -- crab cakes at the Oceanic, breakfast on the causeway, brisk morning constitutional along the waves. Have to be back Sun. evening so it isn't the full weekend, but I'll take it.

Travellyn--Good for you for teaching your children the meaning behind these holidays!!! My dh recently retired from the military and our kids have met way too many people who do not fully realize what is being observed. Thanks you

Thanks, mms. I'm embarrassed to admit that the reason I realized I needed to do it was that while we were visiting the Grand Canyon in April, a ranger asked my 11 year old what Memorial Day meant, and my son had no clue.

In my tiny little New England town we don't have but one big celebration and its Memorial Day. The one and only parade is held with all the youth groups marching, the vets march, the tractors and antique cars roll down the street. The whole town follows the parade to the training field where politicians give speeches, students read essays, the high school band plays. Then the fire department gives all the kids a ride on the firetrucks back to the ball fields where there is a field day. Its the epitome of small town Americana and I wouldn't miss it for the world.

WE are going to party all weekend long. First party is for my DD who is turning 17, for 25 of her closest friends with chips, cokes, and pool.

Next party, Sunday, is for my 12 year old son's Little League team who just finished up the season as #1 team. 19 wins, 1 loss. Yeah. Should be rip roaring. It is his last year on the team and we are broken hearted to have to bump up to Babe Ruth. Time marches on.

So, Monday, think I will be flat out on the coach, book in hand, trying to recooperate...Thanks for asking.

Having just returned from San Diego and having seen the 100,000 ton USS Stennis (CVAN 74) with 6200 crew members embark for a "four month" cruise to the "SW Pacific", I'll just fondly remember all who serve(d).

Remembering why we have a Memorial Day holiday... we will enjoy our time together and then on Monday attend our local Memorial Day Services to honor those that made the supreme scarifice for our country, which made our enjoyable weekend possible.
Here is to our fallen heroes and to teaching our children to pause and honor them on this Memorial Day Holiday.

Hitting I95 for Santee, SC, St. Augustine, FL for family reunion, and WDW's Wilderness Lodge Resort. Hubby will hit the parks with our nine yr. old who's been each year since age 4, so she's getting to be a pro. I'm planning on hanging out at the resort with my 15 mo. old lounging by the pool, visiting the resort's petting zoo, getting a hair tune-up and ordering room service. Disney's a second home for us and enjoying the resort's amenities while everyone else is in the parks is my idea of the ideal WDW vacation.

Happy Memorial Day, everyone, especially veterans, living and gone.`
