Sarah, If you want to stay close to the Beach you would look for something along A1A. If not close to the beach, then the Embassy Suites is a newer place. On A1A there is the Marriott Beach Towers. Nice place, cheaper but adequate is The Sheraton Clipper.

Thank you for your reply. Whenever I do a search, I get Deerfield, Hollywood, Ft. Lauderdale, Ft. Lauderdale Beach, Ft. Lauderdale-by-the-sea, Hollywood Beach, etc. Which area is A1A? Do you have to have a car? Yes, we would like to stay on the beach.

If you do a search all of those hotels come up,they show all surrounding areas. Lauderdale by the sea,is more residential. No high rises are built there. It is more quiet. If you want to stay where there is more action, you want the area where those hotels are I mentioned. Yes we had a car. Depending how long you are staying, you more than likely would want a car. It isn't far from the airport and the hotels do provide transportation. There are many restaurants and the water taxis you can ride for $5.00 a day, but they are very slow.
