West Caldwell, New Jersey- what airport??

What would be the most convenient major airport for a short business trip to West Caldwell (coming from LAX.)

Is West Caldwell an OK place to stay or should I be looking for a hotel elsewhere?

THANKS

The closest would be Newark, NJ and you can catch a cab from there to W. Caldwell.

Newark Airport. LaGuardia and Kennedy aren't even close second option.

Because it's part of Essex county, a google search of the name might imply it's near Newark. It really isn't. I don't know that area well but I have a friend who lives near there and I think it's a fairly high income area.

In terms of hotels, if you're looking for something nice, you might check the distance from the Short Hills Hilton. Otherwise, I seem to recall numerous Ramada, Sheraton type hotels on Route 46, by the West Caldwell Airport. (A small general aviation field.)

OK, let's say we stay in a hotel adjacent to the Newark Airport and husband rents a car to go on business to West Caldwell. How easy would it be for me to take public transport to Manhattan? Would I take the hotel shuttle back to the airport and get on some kind of train there? I am guessing this train would go into Penn Station....

You could do that. But, I think a better option for both of you would be to stay at either the Short Hills Hilton or the Summit Grand Hotel.

From the Summit Grand, you could walk to the Summit train station in less then 10 minutes and catch a train into midtown. (I think they'd drive you regardless.) A fairly active train line goes through Summit and you would be in the city in about 45 minutes. On certain rush hour trains, the trip is about 30 minutes. (The Hilton does have a shuttle. At least I think it does.)

The drive from Summit to West Caldwell is about 20 minutes which is a far better option for your husband.

Summit has a nice little downtown with plenty of shops and restaurants if you wanted to meet up for dinner or just walk around a bit. It is very safe and is a relatively affluent area.
