Newark, NJ hotel

Can anyone tell me a decent hotel to stay in for one night near the Newark airport. My husband and I will be arriving in Newark before we head to St. Maarten and we would like to stay some place close to the airport.
Also, We will be in Newark all day would a short trip to NYC be possible from EWR through public transportation?
Any info will be helpful.
Thanks

For info about getting into Manhattan, do a search of this forum. It's a frequent topic.

In short, yes, you can get from the airport to Manhattan easily for about $14 each way (via Airtrain, the airport monrail, and thn a NJ Transit train). Be sure your hotel is at the airport or has a shuttle to get you to the AirTrain or airport train station.

There's a Marriott at the airport. Getting to and from NYC is easy. The air train goes to NJ transit, which takes you to Penn Station.

Another vote for the Marriott which was recommended by several posters here when I asked the same question.

Use the Marriot. It is right in the airport complex. Then you can take advantage of the airtrain to Manhattan

Instead of rushing to fit-in, NYC, why not enjoy Newark - stay at the Robert Treat Hotel - check out the performance schedule at The New Jersey Performing Arts Center (directly accross the street) reserve dinner in the Hotel's Maize, if you have not been to Liberty State Park, you are in the vicinity! Have lunch in one of the town's Portuguese and Spanish restaurants! Visit the Newark Museum!
