Wash DC : difference in hotel rates wknd/weekday
any suggestions?
we need to stay in Alexandria Old Town for mother's day weekend. thought that perhaps we would add on a few extra days to have to ourselves for museums, etc.
the difference between the weekend rate and monday & tuesday is amazing.....over 60% more for the weekdays.
any experience with booking for a weekend and then extending sunday night? do they still increase the rates just as much?
all advice welcome, thanks.

Yep, rates differ by day of the week, sometimes dramatically in places with lots of business travelers. No way around it. It's not generally possible to get a weekend rate midweek, even if you did spend the weekend there. Sometimes you can get a deal if you are staying long enough to qualify for a weekly rate (not unlike car rentals) but in busy markets that is not common.

thank you for the quick replies!
i was able to be a bit flexible with our dates, and ended up making a reservation at Alexandria Old Town Hilton...it was less expensive than the Embassy Suites for the same dates.
Seems that Friday-Tues is a better deal than Sat-Wed. Lucky for us, we could do either.
any further tips/advice is always invited. thanks again.

There's a Hilton at Springfield VA, at the end of the Blue line about 10-15 minutes by Metro from Alexandria/King Street. They have free shuttle to the Springfield/Franconia station. Consider it for part (or all) of your stay. It doesn't have charming King St near it, but it does have a large shopping mall.
