In the USA, Key West might be a good suggestion.
Hubby and I are always looking for a warm spot in January also. Since retirement we have visited Australia/ NZ in 2003, Baja California last year, and this year we will go to South Africa/Botswana/Nambia.
Before retirement we visited Key West many times and it is just perfect for a winter "getaway".

Happy upcoming Birthday!
Well, I am not Suze, but I would cast my enthusiastic vote for Puerto Vallarta. Not Nuevo Vallarta and the large resorts there, but something with much more character, like Dreams Resort (formerly Camino Real) or Villa Premier, the former about a 10 minute taxi ride from the old town and the latter just a few blocks away.
Or, how about a cruise to Tahiti? This is what I did for my 50th and it was fabulous.
