I'm only replying to this message after hearing many of you talk about walking the Golden Gate bridge. We've driven across twice. We've taken both coastal drives from SF south and then, two years ago, SF north finishing finally in Port Angeles, WA with a ferry boat to Victoria. Anyway, to our dismay, we were traveling over the bridge on the last trip and driving in the middle lane. Suddenly, a small pick up truck in the right lane abruptly hits the brakes and stops dead in the middle of the bridge. A young man got out of the truck, walked around the front of the vehicle straight to the side of the bridge, placed his hands on the railing, hopped his legs over the rail and jumped off. He appeared to be pulling up his pants while walking around the truck--maybe weights in the pockets. I was sick for two hours after seeing that. Later, we found that people jump all the time, which we presumed after discussing the incident after it happened. So those of you walking over, I guess keep your eyes opened!
