Walk/Hike from Shipwreck Beach to Poipu?

We are going to stay at the Hyatt in Kauai and am wondering if there is a trail or pathway that leads from the Hyatt/Shipwreck Beach area to Poipu Beach Park. I have been told that the Hyatt is about two miles from Poipu Beach. Is that right? Any info regarding this would be helpful. Thanks!

I may be picturing it wrong, however I believe there are homes and other barriers so you can't walk along the shore. I don't believe it is all sand. You could walk along the road and neighborhoods.

No, you cnnot walk all the way to Poipu Beach Park along the sand, there are cliffs in the way plus it is very hot. This would NOT be a fun walk carrying beach gear, just too many hills. There's lots of parking at Poipu Beach; I would recommend driving.

Thanks for the info. We weren't planning to have a car while we stayed at the Haytt as we are going to be there with a car the week before staying with friends. We were planning to do most of touring the week before and then just chill at the Hyatt, but would still want to snorkel and swim at Poipu. Does this sound like a bad idea?

I wouldn't want to be without a car. And it is a long ways, I wouldn't want to walk.

Yes, there is a path that connects the Hyatt to Poipu Beach Park and Brenneke Beach. We have walked it many times (in the opposite direction) to have coffee and read the paper in the morning at the Hyatt. The path is paved and does not run along the ocean. It goes from the Hyatt, through a greenbelt portion of the Poipu Kai resort, and then through another part of Poipu Kai down to the beach. This is a walking path and is patrolled even at night. It is probably a pleasant half-mile walk (at most) and we prefer definitely prefer it to getting in and out of the car and parking at the beach. I wouldn't walk it with a cooler but with a beach bag and a towel, it's a breeze. Lots of walkers on it in the morning.

Kip is right, there is a nice paved sidewalk that you can use to get to Poipu Beach.

Wow! Thanks Kip and Brenda for the info. You confirmed what I had been told, but I wanted to check it out.
