Wailea, Maui eating

My fiancée and I will be honeymooning in Maui in November. We haven't booked our hotel but the Four Seasons tops our list. My one concern is food. We're not into fancy dining (reduction of soy milk, smoked poi foam, etc.) and are happiest eating simple meals: e.g., burger, pizza, spaghetti, chicken with veggies, steak tips and rice. Are there restaurants at or near the hotel where we can get this type of food?

If you're staying in Wailea, how about Da Kitchen in Kihei? It's a short drive from Wailea. http://www.da-kitchen.com It's casual, counter service.

There are many restaurants in Kihei ( a short drive from Wailea) that have the kind of food you listed. To get reviews of the best ones, look in the travel guide book Maui Revealed by Doughty.

as suggested above, your best bet for casual, simple meals are in the kihei area. if you will be driving around, in the paia area (and i strongly suggest you at least make a stop here if you will be driving out to hana), garden cafe in makawao will be a good place. it's in a cluster of stores on baldwin ave. they make wonderful salads with chicken. it's behind the sherry reeve art gallery. you will be dining outdoors under the shade of large trees. lots of country charm. for dessert, across the street is an old early 1900's bakery (i forgot the name, i think it's komoda bakery)and try their eclairs. they're heavenly. they sell out fast so you might want to pick up the eclairs first before going to garden cafe.

The bakery that flyme2themoon mentions is indeed Komoda Bakery. They also have good stick donuts. Second the recommendation to go early. The last time we went we tried to get some malasadas but we were too late and they were sold out.

If you do end up in Paia, we're fans of the Paia Fish Market and also the Ono Gelato Company across the street. I heard they recently opened a branch of Ono Gelato in Kihei, but we've only been to the one in Paia.

Put Joe's on your list! It's located at the Wailea Tennis Center. Great food as well as my favorite drink, Mangotini!

If you're in Paia try Charley's for breakfast. They have THE best mac nut pancakes.

We drove by the Komoda Bakery one afternoon during the week of 2 Aug, but it was closed so recommend calling before you go.

Have a wonderful time!

You might try The Shops at Wailea, an upscale shopping center in the 'hood that has middle-upper range offerings including Cheeseburger (Island Style), Longhi's...

Kihei does have many choices including Peggy Sue's, Stella's Diner, Alexander's and Maui Taco. None of those is upscale, though we've have good meals at, or takeout from, each.

Best wishes.

We stay in the Kihei/Wailea area every year and the best restaurant in our opinion is the Seawatch Restaurant at one of the Wailea golf courses (I think it's the blue or green one) The view is to die for and we always have good food although it's not too fancy - my hubby is a straight 'steak and potatoes' kind of guy and we're always very happy with our choices. It's a great place for a sunday brunch but also for a nice meal at sunset. When booking, ask for an outside table.

I see that Gannon's has taken over the space of the Sea Watch restaurant at the clubhouse on the Wailea Emerald Course. The reviews have been good, so I'll have to try it the next time I'm on Maui. Loved, loved the Sea Watch restaurant. The Gannons (Haliimaile General Store and Joe's) have wonderful restaurants and a great reputation. And that restaurant space has views to die for.

The Gazebo (North of Lahaina)- Hands down the best breakfast we have had on Maui for the money (theview alone was worth the price!)Well worth a trip but go early or be prepared to wait.

Charley's- in Paia is good for breakfast as well but lacks the view of Gazebo.

Paia Fish Market- Good food and definitely worth a stop.

Haliimaile General Store - Love this place. Please note it is really a take out place but with GREAT food. We ate several times our last trip. The spaghetti is fab!

Da Kitchen- Good just not on the same level as some of the others. Cheap and worth a stop.

Komoda Bakery is SOOOOO ONO!!

There is some very good food at the Saturday Market in Kahului as well. The market itself is a blast. If you have never tried custard apple, do yourself a favor. they are available at many of the fruit markets. Roadside pineapples and Cheese from costco make great meals.
All of the above food would suit your taste quite well.
