GBelle, I think you may be thinking of The Outrigger Reef on the Beach...not the Outrigger Waikiki.
Their website does not indicate that construction is going on, but the Reef indicates renovations are going on unil late 2007.
The Outrigger Waikiki is right in the middle of Waikiki while the Outrigger Reef is down in the Lewers St area where they have been doing all of the contruction for the past few years.

Thank you everyone for your input. I have put a tentative reservation in at the Marriott because I could get a corner deluxe room for $279.00 with AAA. I thought that was a good price. I am still going to look into the Sheraton because a lot of you seem to like that a lot. I'd be interested in any more opinions on the Marriott Waikiki, or maybe the Outrigger Waikiki on the beach. I don't want to get too confused so I'd like to keep my options down to a few. Thanks again for your opinions. This will be my first time in Hawaii and am very excited!!

From what I remember, the Marriott seemed like a nice hotel, but being directly on the water is a major advantage. But I would think you'd be fine there. The Outrigger Waikiki seemed like the nicer of the two Outriggers, and the restaurant (Duke's) was very good.
