Outrigger Waikiki or Marriott Spa & Resort

I am considering staying at either one of these hotels the latter part of September. The price of the rooms are about the same for the city view. Which one is nicer, is in the heart of the Waikiki, provides decent service and accomaditions? Your help and suggestions would be appreciated

Are you talking about the Marriott Waikiki Resort & Spa.

The Outrigger Waikiki is right across the stree from the International Market Place and has the beach right behind it. It also has Dukes in it.

The Marriott Waikiki is about 4 blocks (toward Diamond Head) from the Outrigger on the other side of the street from the beach. It is almost at the Diamond Head end of the hotels in Waikiki.

Both hotels are on Kalakaua.

But if you look at a Waikiki map, the hotels on the beach side of Kalakaua end with the Sheraton Moana Surfrider which is next to the Outrigger Waikiki. So if you choose the Marriott, the beach is directly across the road.

The International Market Place is scheduled to be closed around September for a year or so for renovation.

Both hotels are in good locations and you can't go wrong with either one.

But, it sure would be nice to have the beach right out my back door.

So, if it were me, I would choose the Outrigger.

My husband is a frequent (business) traveller and gets lots of perks (upgrades, etc.) at Marriotts. However, last summer we still selected the Outrigger. Great location. Great beach. Across from the Int'l. Marketplace. If the rates are the same, I'd choose the Outrigger. For us, the Outrigger was more $$, but we still stayed there.

thank you for your thoughts, they are appreciated, we are leaning toward the Outrigger, from time to time as I understand it some people get the Marriott on Priceline for $135 to $150 which would be less than Outrigger but having never used Priceline I have a concern about not being able to request a non-smoking room, both my wife an I have trouble sleeping in a smoking room. I have reserved both just to be safe but I am thinking that maybe I should be cancelling the Marriott.

I recommended the Outrigger in a previous message.
But, before you cancel the Marriott, are you going to have a car?
If so, then make sure one (or the other) has parking available.

I stayed at the Outrigger this past AMrch and loved it. The room I had was of the same quality I have always found at Marriott properties. It was great to be right on the beach and the restaurants were good too. It's a very central location.

We stayed at the Outrigger last August and also loved it. We are returning again this August. It has a great central location on Waikiki Beach, the restaurants are good, the service is excellent, and the rooms/lobby/etc...were all very recently re-done.

In response to your question Dusty, we will rent a car for several days to make sure that we get a chance to drive to other parts of the Island. Both properties have parking. It appears that the Outrigger wins out over the Marriott. I am hoping to be able to use the coupon from the Entertainment book to get the rate down to about $165, has anyone found a less expensive rate for the Outrigger Waikiki?
