Waikiki Hotel HELP!!
Hello,
Has anyone stayed at the Sheraton Waikiki? I can get a decent rate just over $300 for an oceanview, and it seems like a good location. The Royal Hawaiian and Sheraton Moana are just out of our price range for an oceanview room. I need to stay below $330 or so for 3 nights in mid-April. I think I need to be booking now, so any ideas would be soooooo helpful. Thank you everyone!! I was also looking at the Marriott Waikiki but it seems a bit far from the action? Is that true?

You may not have a desire to do this, but I just pricelined and got the Hawaii Prince Hotel for 2 nights in late March for $149. All of the rooms are oceanfront, but they are on the harbor. If you think The Marriott is too far from the action, you will think The Prince is also. We stayed at the Marriott and I liked the location as well as the hotel.
Have fun.

It depends if you like to be easily walking distance for everything central in Waikiki (as far as hotels being right in the center or too far "from the action"). I prefer central locations myself because I don't rent a car and like to be able to do most things on foot.

I have stayed at the Sheraton Waikiki several times and at the Waikiki Marriott about 30 times. (My husband has MArriott Platinum status so we have always gotten fantastic rooms there.) I much prefer the Marriott and have never felt removed from the "action." (I would definitely feel removed if I did a Priceline bid and got the Prince.)

Sorry, but I don't know exactly where either of those hotels are located of the top of my head.
I meant only, for myself, I would check a street map of Waikiki just to make sure I was staying walking distance to the central area. While some people like it, I would not want to be out my Ala Moana mall, for example.

No where in Waikiki is too far from "the action". The entire strip is only about 1 1/2 miles long and 3-4 blocks wide.
There are shops, restaurant, nightclubs throughout Waikiki. Most are located in central Waikiki in hotels near International Market Place.
Some of the Resortquest hotels/condos are right across the street form the beach & much less expensive than those right on the beach.
Outrigger Reef on the Beach is right on the beach & has some excellent views. It's also less expensive than some of the others. Some constuction in the area during daytime though.

Waikiki is about a 2 mile strip end-to-end. The Sheraton is probably right smack in the middle, and the Marriott is just a little off center. Neither is far from "the action" so whichever you choose will be fine. What kind of action are you actually looking for?

I stayed at the Sheraton a few years ago and liked it, although it gets mixed reviews. I think the rooms were recently renovated, and the hotel is right on the water -- unlike the Marriott, which I remember being across a very busy street. The little patch of sand in front of the Sheraton wasn't much, but right next door -- about a 30-second walk -- was one of the widest stretches of the beach.

to MelissaHl - Thanks for your opinion. Sorry, I wasn't thinking about any racy type of action, just the convenient touristy things
. This is our first time in HI and we want to be sure to have a nice hotel in walking distance to shops, restaurants, bus line, etc.

Both hotels - the Sheraton Waikiki or the Marriott - are within walking distance to shops, restaurants, bus lines, etc. As another poster indicated, the Sheraton is right on the beach, while the Marriott is across the street.

I've stayed at the Sheraton Waikiki several times. I love the hotel and location. I would love to stay at the Marriott someday because I also like that location. You can't go wrong either way.
A couple things I like about the Sheraron:
It's a great location in the middle of Waikiki.
It's on the beach.
It has a great pool with view of the ocean.
The rooms have fantastic views. Some are very high up. It has something like 22 floors. They put us near the top once and I had to request a room a fewer floors down.
There is a nice coffee shop with seating in front of the hotel. They have bagels and muffins too. I love to sit with morning coffee and watch all the Japenese brides come through the lobby for their limo.
There are 4 restaurants in the hotel. The Hano Hano Room at the top is really nice with beautiful views.
It's really clean with good security.
Have fun!

ha ha I was just kidding with the implication that your action might be racy. Anyway, if you are looking for bus lines and shopping, I am also wondering if the Prince Hotel might be for you. Ala Moana Center is a 5 minute walk from that hotel. The mall is a major hub to many bus lines. Don't get me wrong, there's tons of shopping all along Kalakaua Avenue in Waikiki! But of course, Waikiki is a major, major tourist destination so you need to shop carefully as many spots may be more expensive than at other places.

mom, not trying to sell you on the Prince because it is a loooooong way on the far end, but they do have a shuttle service that will take you within a certain radius of the hotel and to the golf course. Don't have a clue how reliable it is, but they do offer the service.
