Hello,

I'm off to Hawaii in a few weeks. I have a choice between the Radisson and the Marriott in Waikiki. (We are only on Oahu for 2 nights before proceeding to Maui.) Can anyone do a comparison of the room comfort levels at these 2 hotels? I have done extensive research (Fodors, Tripadvisor, etc.), and I am still torn between the two properties.

The Radisson is about 30 percent less than the Marriott; however, if the Marriott rooms are much nicer, I will gladly pay the difference. I am ok with locations for both hotels, etc.; my decision will be based soley on how nice the rooms are. (A tired worn room can depress your vacation!)

(Our only other options are the Hilton at about $100 more than the Marriott, and the JW Marriott, which is not on Waikiki Beach. We are using points for part of our stay.)

30% difference? I think I would choose the Radisson solely based on that. The $$ you save would mean nicer restaurants, activities, etc.

Both are in the same area of Waikiki. The Marriott is right across the street from the beach. The Radisson is a block over and a block behind the Marriott.

Thanks for the reply. However, with the use of our points, the 30% price difference is not enough to make a dent in other parts of our vacation. I am satisfied with the services and location of both hotels; I am wondering about the differences in the actual guest rooms. Do you have any familiarity with that issue?

I have not stayed at the Radisson but have at the Marriott. Click on my screen name and see an answer I gave recently!

I know that some of you will be up in arms reading this reply, but I've been thinking this for quite a while now. I can't understand why so many people get bent out of shape as which hotel to go to for only two nights. What difference does it really make if you are only staying for a breathing spell, if you inhabit the Marriot or the Prince? Do you think it will make that much of a difference which one you stay at for TWO nights? Come off it, get real. Before you even know which hotel you're at, you gotta get up and leave.

Another thing that bugs me---Someone asks, "what do you think about hotel XXX". Invariably, you will get some jerk that replies, "I've never been to hotel XXX, and I don't know anything about it". Then they proceed to say that they have been to hotel YYY, and think it was great, etc., and go on rambling about their trip. Reporting about your trip is OK, but what on earth does it do to answer the question that was posed? Please folks, stick to the subject!! Bah humbug!!!

What difference does it make if you have a meal at McDonalds or Nick's Fishmarket? It's just a meal and it will be over in an hour.

And what difference is it if you go fishing in a row boat on a lake or deep sea fishing on a yacht? It's just a fishing trip and it will be over in a couple of hours.

And what difference does it make if you go to the beach or if you just look at the beach from your room? After all, it's just sand and water.

People want to make the best out of their trip and ask questions. Others make their comments to answer the questions and try to give other info they think may help.

Chels, I used to work at the Marriott and I know that the rooms were renovated so they should be very nice. Other factors I consider in a hotel are ease of parking and convenience to other attractions. Although the Radisson is just kitty corner from the Marriott, I would stay at the Marriott for all the things you can enjoy there. also--whether you stay in the Marriott or not--have sunset drinks & pupus at their poolside bar!

I'm one of those people who agonizes over a hotel for even one night. I recently stayed in a hotel near SFO for just one night and was sorely disappointed. The room itself was nice, but everything else about the hotel was a disappointment and that did color my views. I agree with dusty!!

Chels, we stayed at the Marriott for a few nights in May and enjoyed it a lot. Got it for $125 thru priceline.
