Waikiki Marriott

Has anyone recently stayed at the Marriott in Waikiki? I can get a good price through a relative for Marriott hotels, but I am not so sure about this property. I have been to Waikiki so I do know what to expect of the area but I can't recall the Marriott right on Waikiki. The web site only shows a lame picture of people in an outrigger canoe paddling to shore on what looks to be the Diamond head end of Waikiki near that weird 60's era church. I am only staying for a few nights but I was wondering if anyone could elaborate on or review this hotel for me. Is there a pool? My guess is that Marriott took over another hotel and re-named it. Thanks for any input.

It was previously the Hawaiian Regent. It did have a lovely open air lobby with a waterfall type fountain at the entrance. It's just across the street from the beach and very near the park. We have fond memories of it since we spent part of our honeymoon there but I don't know anything about it since the Marriott took over. I know they did refurbish it. The pool was on the roof of the lower section, something like the third level. Maybe someone else can give you more up-to-date info.

It's locally famous for having a lot of quality live Hawaiian music shows (not shmaltzy or touristy) that you will overhear while passing bars, etc.

I used to work there (left 2 years ago) just before the Marriott took over. There have been many changes to the restaurants there, and many of the rooms were already in the process of being renovated. There are TWO pools, one at each tower. The hotel itself is right across the street from the beach. It's a nice hotel and you can expect good service.

I have stayed at the Waikiki Beach Marriott 4 times in the last year.
I love the location across from the beach and the newly renovated rooms are great. The deluxe oceanfront rooms are the best.

Kath,

Can you describe the difference between an Oceanfront room and a Deluxe Oceanfront room? Thanks,
Duane
