My wife will be there on business trip and I am thinking about going with her. My college roommate lives and works somewhere near Oklahoma city (Goldsby?) so I will be visiting with him a couple evenings. But what to do during a day? Are there any museums worthy to see? Maybe historic sites, hiking trails and walking paths?
Any other ideas? I will rent a car for two-three days so I am willing to drive to some interesting places.

Not long ago on this forum I remember reading very interesting answers regarding visiting Tulsa, OK and I hope that Oklahoma City has even more things that will occupy me for three-four days.

I'm glad I can finally repay all the help I've received from this place by giving in kind. So, here's some things to check out in OKC: The Omnicplex - over 10 acrers of various museums, hands on science exhibits, space artifacts, vintage aircraft, art & cultural galleries, botanical gardens, planetarium, and the Omnidome Theater. There is the Red Earth Museum - American Indian Art or the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. For hiking - Arcadia Lake or Lake Heffner are close by. The first capitol of Oklahoma was the historic town of Guthrie (25miles from OKC) and there is the Guthrie Museum Complex and the Carnegie Library. There is the OKC Memorial for the Murrah Building bombing victims. And finally, there is Remington Park Race Track for thoroughbred and quarter horse racing. Hope this helps and enjoy your stay.

OKC has done a terrific job of revitalizing their downtown. Bricktown is an area of renovated buildings that are now house an assortment of restaurants and bars- great for lunch or an evening out. Also in Bricktown is a great and fairly new stadium for the AAA baseball team.
A new art museum just opened a couple of weeks ago as well.
There are a couple of Route 66 museums an hour or two west of OKC- one is the state museum and the other is the national museum. Maybe in Clinton?

All of the museums mentioned above are good. You can also visit the Myriad Crystal Bridge botanical gardens in the downtown area. You did not say when you trip is but Oklahoma City host one of the best art festivals around. The Oklahoma City Spring Art Festival will be April 23-28th. The event will be adjacent to the Myriad botanical gardens. There is plenty of art, bands, dancers, and also food from many of the local Oklahoma City resturants.

Some local resturants that I really like are Pearl's (Cajun) at 63rd & Western, Bahama Breeze (seafood) and Redrock Grill (Steaks, chicken, misc) both at Lake Hefner.

If you like history and a casual atmosphere drive to Okarche, OK one evening & go eat at Eischen's. It is the oldest bar in Oklahoma. They serve fried chicken w/white bread, onions, sweet pickles, & fried okra. Oh, and of course cold beer. Just so you are not surprised you will be eating with your fingers -- no silverware.

Oklahoma City is a great town! There are plenty of things to do (as others have mentioned) and they have some of the best beef barbecue in the world.

When I visited their art museum, they answered a lot of my detailed questions. Their collection of WPA art is one of the best in the country, in my opinion.

Nina, I'm glad to see you are interested in OKC and willing to give it a chance. It's really a great place. There is tons of stuff to do, as others have mentioned. We have the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame, the National Cowboy Hall of Fame, the National Softball Hall of Fame, and the International Photography Hall of Fame, which is part of the Omniplex. There is the Memorial downtown, and our new Bass Pro Shop Outdoor World will open in November. The Bricktown area offers canal rides and you can see a Redhawks game in the finest minor league ballpark in the nation. The Blazers are our hockey team and they play in the brand new Ford Center arena. The Oklahoma City Museum of Art is great and houses the largest collection of modern glass sculpture in the country (or something like that). There is much more and it would be impossible to list everything, it just depends on your interest.
