Visiting Disney and 1 week Tampa area with 7 yr old
Hi
I have read all the great advise, and we are also last minute travellers to this area- am not familiar with Orlando/Tampa and we would like to stay somewhere pleasant and see the area- we are staying in Disney first, and need a place first week April- prefer seaside- is it far from Orlando to coast, and is it ok to stay there? We need inexpensive (our exchange rate is 8:1$), but do not want somewhere dodgy. Any suggestions please?

Can you please be a little more specific about what kind of accommodations you are seeking (oceanfront, ocean view, just near the beach, etc.) and what you are willing to pay?
The nearest beaches are on the Atlantic ocean - about 1 1/2 hours from the Disney area. The closest ones will probably be Cocoa Beach and Indialantic.
Give us some more details please!

St Pete's beach is a good area and the water is much calmer than the Atlantic- also about 90 minutes away. There is a huge price range for accomodations. I believe that is right after Easter and many schools in the north are on break so you may have to hunt a bit for a place any where close to Orlando. Good luck.

You are two hours from Clearwater Beach to the Disney Parks. If you stay on the E. Coast at Cocoa Beach, it is a little over an hour. However, if you are planning on staying the balance of your trip in Tampa, Clearwater should be your decision. If you are doing more than one day at Disney, you should stay Disney area and then relocate to beachside. Disney has on-site economy hotels, but you are still over $100 per night. Nearby Fairfield Inn or Hampton Inn might be less, but not much.

Thanks for all the advise. Orlano_Vic, we do not know where to stay, we are in Disney for 2 weeks, then would ideally like to go to the ocean, but thought it may be easier (to find accommodation)to stay on in Orlando and do day trips from there. We would prefer self catering after 2 weeks in a hotel, but are not fussy. Cheers Caroline
