We will be renting a house at Sandbridge in June and would like some suggestions as to what places to visit and which to avoid. We will have 7 children from the ages of 3 to 12 along with 9 adults. thanks for the help!

We rented a house at Sandbridge quite a few years ago. The main thing: beach, beach and more beach. There was a very nice seafood restaurant and pizza delivery was readily available. Then, too, we toured the boats in Norfolk and did the dinner cruie thing in Norfolk as well. It is an absolutely beautiful area...everyone flies kites from their deck...enjoy!

Sandbridge to Norfolk is about 45 minutes

Sandbridge, as I remember it last, was awful! Lots of sea walls etc. Our family stopped going there because of that about 8 years ago. It USED to be a great place.

The Marine Science museum in Virginia Beach would probably interest the kids. There's also an IMAX theater there, although I don't know what's presently playing. Downtown Norfolk has several places of interest - a zoo, a huge, upscale shopping mall, Nauticus (navy/ship themed), a minor league baseball stadium, and a ferry service across the river to Portsmouth. There's a water park in Virginia Beach also, but since you'll be at the beach, I'm not sure that's something you're interested in. What sort of activities do you all enjoy? Are you wanting to limit your sightseeing to the Virginia Beach area? Post back with specifics and you'll probably get more info. A few sites that might be helpful to you are:

Head up to Rudee Inlet just off the south end the Virginia Beach strip. There you will find a couple of good restaurants. Rockerfellers is a favorite among everyone I know and Rudees is good, to.

Also from this area, you may take a fishing boat out for sea bass, flounder, etc... We went yesterday on the Atlantic Princess, and although fishing was slow, the view was fabulous. Take the whole day and enjoy.

To get there, go to "the strip" of Virginia Beach, which is Atlantic Avenue. Go south almost to the end, and then west on 5th Street from Atlantic Avenue. The water at the end of the strip is the mouth of Rudee Inlet. Enjoy you stay in Virginia!
