Virginia Beach in late October?

How desirable is Virginia Beach in mid/late October? Are the restaurants and boardwalk still open? We have never been there before and are wondering if summertime is better? What can we do at that time?

Thank you!!!
Suzy

I've been to VB in November and I imagine it is somewhat similar to mid-late October. The boardwalk, which is a paved pathway that runs the length of the beach from before 2nd Street to 40th Street, is always open and you can walk or bike along it. Restaurants will also be open. The beach is great for walking. There are many hotels which have indoor pools and spas.

If you want to go into the water or sit on the beach in the sun, then you would probably prefer going in summer. If you want to beachwalk and avoid the crowds, October would be preferable.

Virginia is gorgeous in Oct. October and May are usually our best months weather wise. I have never been on the boardwalk at that time of year so I don't know for sure whether shops and restaurants will be open but since Virginia Beach is the largest city in the state there will still be a lot of places you can stay, play, and eat nearby.

Virginia Beach will be semi-open in October. The restaurants will still be open and the boardwalk which is not weather dependent will be available. You can still rent tandem bikes and (I think, as a local I never use them) take one the horse back riding experiences. In October there will be a heavy Halloween theme because there are quite a few Haunted and Fun houses.

As far the beach goes..you may or may not find the weather hot enough for full on beach going. Its lovely weather just not super hot. I prefer September for VA Beach. Its still blazing hot and there's far less people. In October though there are tons of farms in VA Beach with pumpkin patches and hay rides. Busch Gardens about 45 minutes away will still be open as well.

I was there in October about 10 years ago or so, some hotels and restaurants were open, we stopped at a restaurant on the south end of the beach, first time I had ever eaten soft shell crabs, yum! There were a few diehard surfers out in the water trying to catch what they called waves.

Busch Gardens will be open but on a limited schedule so make sure before you drive up. It is also the most crowded time of year because of Hallowscream.
