Best chance for an upgrade is to join the hotel's frequent guest program.

This has been discussed a few times before. It requires $20, a very quick analysis of the people at the front desk and a little luck.

The way it usually works is that before you approach anyone at the front desk, try to look for someone that looks both nice and that they have been doing this job for some time. You don't want to get stuck with a newbie who'll just think the tip is nice.

After you found this kind of person, get in his/her line. While you are waiting, get a $20 and fold it in half twice, and put it under your credit card. When you get to the desk, ask first how full the hotel is. Then ask what kind of room you have. If the hotel is not too full, then, and VERY NICELY, ask if it is possible to get a better room. By then, you should have made sure that the person at the front desk has seen that you are willing to tip her.

Since you are going on sun/tue, it should be easier.

Last two times I was in Vegas, I got a room upgrade (a very nice suite at Paris) and a room with a view of the strip, plus a fruit basket and a bottle of champagne at Treasure Island.

I always just ask if there is a possibility of getting a room upgrade. I don't tip. Last time I got a jr. suite. Sometimes I just get a better view of the strip.
