Waldorf Towers is in much better shape - and much bigger $. The regular rooms are slowly being redone - but many are still very tired.
For real luxury you want Ritz Carlton, Mandarin Oriental, Four Seasons, Pierre, St Regis, Trump International, etc. And you will be very lucky to get these for $500 during slow periods - and $1000 during high season.

Thanks to everyone......I just love these posts that are all about "moi". Yes, I am the girl who's throwing the huge cocktail party on my ocean-view balcony @ the Muse in the middle of Times Square. And you're ALL invited 'cus you've been so helpful. I realized I cannot afford the luxury I want.....so I'm settling with something I can afford, but it still sounds like it's a cut above "budget". I'll post a trip report on my return......and to emd.....your trip report was really great! thank you for that. Btw, the 4* Priceline that was so bad in Chicago was the Knickerbocker (Millenium).....yikes, scary, mildew all over the bathroom, thread-thin bedspread, thin saggy mattresses, broken tile on the bathroom floor, a hole big enuf to fall through in the tub....I've generally been happy with Priceline......but the last couple of "4 stars" I've gotten have really been NOT GOOD. I think I paid $80 for the Chicago Knickerbocker....
