Travel Suggestions to Chicago

I will be driving to Chicago this summer from New Orleans. Will be traveling with twin 16 year old boys. One wants to see a cubs game, other is interested in Science museums. Any advicee for "don't miss" attractions?

We will also probably stop in St. Louis.

Are you asking for attractions in Chicago? If so, check out the Chicago entry under the "destinations" link at the top of this page. It will list most of what people consider the "must see" parts of Chicago. Also, there are lots of suggestions here for other things to do and see.

Once you've got a feel for what Chicago has to offer, if you post your interests, time you'll be here, etc. it will be easier for people to help guide you in the right direction.

Also, choosechicago.com has a good visitors' guide and lots of links to museums and such.

One attraction that you may not have considered is a segway tour of the lakefront. It may be the best way to get 16 year olds excited about a guided tour.

How about a bicycle tour? I had a great tie with Bobby's Bike Hike, but there are also tours with Bike Chicago.

The Museum of Science and Industry is possibly the largest science museum in the country. Don't miss the coal mine, a local favorite for 50 years. Also the recently refurbished U-505 submarine exhibit. It's an actual German sub from WW II.

Hi VisitNOLA,

Welcome to Fodor's. Shedd's Aquarium has a great exhibit of beluga whales - so fun to watch them swimming and playing. We're big fans of the Adler Planitarium, in addition to the Museum of Science and Industry.

But, I'm wondering if you might put your sons to researching on the Internet? They would probably enjoy the challange of selecting attractions that appeal to them.

Enjoy, it's a great city to visit.

Nola,
Regarding Cub tickets if you know what game you want to see I would recommend you try getting tickets now. Otherwise you may be paying quite a bit to get into the game. They have ticket brokers in the city who charge quite a bit.

When are you coming in the summer? It's important to know because of all the great summer festivals that happen in Chicago, such as Taste of Chicago, Air & Water show, etc. that you can visit. Have you considered a river &/or lake tour...check out www.seadogcruises.com for architectural & speedboat tours from Navy Pier. The website also has coupons and promotions there. To check out Navy Pier, go to www.chicagotraveler.com/chicago-navy-pier.htm. Navy Pier has the Imax Theater and some other attractions that would be great for 16 year old boys. For evening entertainment, I'd HIGHLY recommend Blue Man Group if you haven't seen it yet. Great percussion music for teens and lots of fun for everyone! The first 3 rows are the "Jell-O rows" where it can get a little messy. Also for evening entertainment, comedy such as Second City or ComedySportz for "clean" improv. For segway tours, check out www.citysegwaytours.com/chicago. The tours are about $70 per person, but well worth it. I've heard great things about Bobby's Bike Hike as well. Definitely get your Cubs tickets now, don't wait. If you can be more specific about when you are coming, and what interests you and your family have, please post them. Leslie

The Field Museum will be hosting the King Tut exhibit beginning at the end of May through January 2007. If you're interested, you should probably get tickets as soon as possible. Check www.fieldmuseum.org.

Thanks for all the replies, I'll be going at the end of June, and I do have Cubs tickets already. Any other suggestions?
