Kauai Information
We are going to be traveling to kauai in the very near future. My brother in law is in hospice and is minutes from death. What we are looking for is inexpensive rentals in the Kilauea area for my husband and I. We are still working on the flights to see if there is any type of bereavement rate for this type of thing. We found one of the cheapest car rental agencies already - 20 dollars a day. He was only diagnosed a few weeks ago so this trip is very unexpected. Any information on "cheap" rentals and ideas you may have would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

I have never used this agency but maybe if you give them a phone call, they can give you some suggestions.
You might also want to repost this with a different title - such as Family Emergency in Kauai Need Lodging Advice. There are many Kauai experts on this board that may be able to help you. Best wishes to your family during this difficult time.

I'm sorry to hear that.
Here are some sites you can check:
www.expedia.com
www.bookit.com
www.hawaii-hotels.com Scroll to the bottom & where it says VISIT, click on Kauai hotels or Kauai condos.
This link has some budget info including 50 B&Bs, some of them on Kauai.

Sorry to hear about your brother-in-law, I have a suggestion regarding your flights if you are not able to get a good fare. Northwest Airlines have what they call a "compassion" fare that you may qualify for. NW will need your brother's name, the phone number and name of his doctor along with the name of the Hospice program. You will also need the date that your brother entered the program. The fare can be expensive in that they take 70% off of the full Y fare, but sometimes the fare can be reasonable. The big advantage is that the compassion fare allows you to travel at short notice, and if you have to make changes, they will not charge you. The fare is also fully refundable.
I hope that you find this information helpful and my prayers are with you and your family.
