Train from Anchorage to Seward ~ which side to sit!
My wife and I are taking a cruise leaving from Seward next summer ~ 1st trip to Alaska. We will take train from Anchorage to Seward on Monday, June 25th, and have couple questions:
1. Are there reserved seats?
2. Which side of train has best views?
3. Any reason to not book through website?
4. Looks like single class?
Thanks.

The right side of the train will be the side with the best views of Turnagain Arm and the Kenai Peninsula mountains on the first 2/3 of the trip. For the last part of the trip, the left side will have close up views of a large glacier and other mountain vistas. Since you also have an observation car, whichever side you sit, you'll have a great trip if the weather is good.

ITA, I took that ride ten years ago and we loved our views from the right side. We moved over to the left towrds the end to see the wildlife, as dwooddon said. I think the train stopped a couple of times, and the observation car was great.

Seats are assigned. If on the right, you have the Arm view for 1/3 the trip and if on the left, the glacier views/mts. for 2/3 the trip. I suggest you head to the dome car for open seats- 30 min. limit if a wait, for the side you are not on for area you are in.
Yes book direct through the web site. Strongly consider- the best touring option of your trip- Kenai fjords boat tour, train makes it in in time for the 11:30am trip leaving with Alaska Heritage. They shuttle from the depot and store your bags. This is a do NOT MISS.

Uh there is no guarantee that you will have the domed observation car on the train. The one we took did not - only regular cars. That said, the right side is good for most of the trip but just get up and walk around to see everything.
