Easton and St Michael's are very close to each other-- abt a 15 min drive. I prefer St Michael's, though both are too "boutiquey" for my taste (too many touristy stores). St Michael's is much more a water/seafood town. Both have many handsome old houses, but I think the little walking tour in St Michael's is more interesting (back lanes, interesting little gardens, things like that). Both towns have some pretty good restaurants. I've never been fond of the Tidewater Inn, but I've only eaten (not stayed) there. Inn at Perry Cabin in St Michael's is heads and shoulders over Tidewater. BUT: If you've got a great room rate (which doesn't include having to eat there) and you're looking for someplace for a little getaway weekend, I think Tidewater could be not unpleasant. I'll check back to see if you have any other specific questions that I might be able to respond to.

Have not stayed at the Tidewater but did spend a weekend at the Inn at Easton. Much smaller place in an historic home and very enjoyable. The chef then was excellent and I assume he is still running the place with his wife. We used to live in Maryland and their inn got lots good publicity in the local papers.
