StnatonHyde--I seriously laughed at your comment regarding Poci! We lived in IF from mid October until mid June once and that was plenty. We didn't quite die from boredom, and we didn't get converted, although many people tried Even when my parents came to visit when I had our baby there, they only stayed 2 nights and that was plenty for them.

Never stayed in Lava Hot Springs but I'd like to someday. Only stay in eastern Idaho was in IF while on the way from central Oregon to the OTO Dude ranch north of Gardiner for a Passport in Time Project.
Only place I stayed with hot spring tubs was along the Rio Grande in Truth or Consequences NM.
Let us all know your experiences in eastern Idaho please.

Will do Tom. We love the hot springs in Ouray and Mt Princeton here in CO so figured it was worth a look see since we'll be so close. We're not in a hurry, so an extra night enroute is fine by us. Lava Hot Springs looks just as sleepy as Ouray and a quarter of the population at 232!

Truth or Consequences is on my short list.

Idaho is the only state I have yet to visit, I too appreciate the tips.

Lava Hot Springs is nice--lots of people from Salt Lake go up there. You will like it if you like thermal pools etc.

I just did this drive in February. We drove from Park City up to Big Sky with an overnight stop in Idaho Falls which broke the 6.5 hour drive in half. There is definitely more life in Idaho Falls vs Pocatello but not enough to stay 2 days at either place in my opinion. From Big Sky we drove down to Victor ID and skied a few days at Grand Targhee before we made our way over to Jackson. Victor is a cool little town and has a little more going on in it than Driggs. There are lots of outdoor activities in the area and the restaurants in both towns were pretty good. The hotel we stayed at in Victor was the absolute highlight of the area, it's called the Teton Springs Lodge. It is a beautiful property and somewhat reasonably priced compared to the lodging at Jackson. I'd highly recommend taking a look at stopping there for your visit to ID.

Driving from Teton Village to Park City took 4.5 hours. Our GPS took us straight down the state of Wyoming. SLC is 30 minutes or so from Park City so this drive can be done in 5 hours driving directly through WY.

Thanks Tony. We've already booked a night at Lava Hot Springs in ID after we leave Jackson and before we head to Park City. We plan to make a day of the drive to Lava Hot Springs and will most likely stop to do some hiking in the Driggs/Victor area.

ATTENTION – CONSTRUCTION NOTICE: The Idaho Transportation Department will be repairing the rock wall inside the hot pool facility 430 E. Main beginning April 5th. This will be about a 60-day project. Highway 30 will also be impacted at this time.

For your safety construction will cause the upper hottest pool to be closed during business hours, it may possibly be open on nights and weekends but not a guarantee. There may be times this will be very noisy and messy. We will not be discounting our rates or any passes. We are sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience during this time.
