The Bus on Oahu is a great bus system - probably even more so now that they're back from a month long strike! (Drivers are as glad to be back to work as the riders are glad to have their bus back.) I believe the rate is now $2 per person, with one free transfer. The Bus runs on time and frequently (every 20-30 minutes) in busy areas. The drivers are cordial and helpful and the people who ride them are generally friendly. The buses are clean and well maintained. I rode The Bus everywhere and it made my visit to Waikiki very convenient.

Is it possible to take the bus from the Windward side (Kahana Bay) to Honolulu? If so, how long would it take?

You can take The Bus just about everywhere you might want to go. Sometimes it takes awhile to get to the other parts of the island because of a lot of stops between destinations, but for $2 you can't beat it. Plus that you can look out the window and see more of the island while you're riding. And the people are friendly - strike up conversations and learn a lot about local folks, it's fun and you'll meet some very nice people.

When I was there and wanted to go somewhere, I either gave The Bus a call directly or asked at the hotel. Either way I was directed to times and corect bus routes to take to get to where I wanted to go. Don't forget to ask for a transfer when you board The Bus.

The busses are relatively clean and air-conditioned.

The system has won national awards. Just one of the good things about Hawaii!

Sorry to interrupt the bus conversation but a quick note to "BashfulLV"...

Thanks so much for your recommendation, I've booked my nights at the Hawaiian Hotel for next month! Looks exactly like what I had in mind & they've been very friendly with my reservations. Mahalo!!
