THANK YOU FODORITES..JUST ONE MORE
HI ALL: Thanks for all the help in planning my solo trip to London, Scotland & Paris. I have my British Rail Pass and my Eurostar ticket and will be finalizing my pick up
at Heathrow today. The inevitable question??? Packing!
Since I am going solo and taking several trains, I am trying to keep my luggage to a minimum with 2 wheeled carryons. It might be cold in London or it could be hot! In Scotland (have never been there ) it could be cold and damp and in Paris the last weeks in May it will surely be hot. I know to bring a rain jacket and umbrella. But will it be too cold for capris and sandals in Scotland. Must I bring all black? I live in S Florida so any weather lower than 65F is cold to me. Will I need a leather jacket, sweaters etc, can I bring some spring (lighter ) clothing? Do I need a hat if I go to the HorseRace in York? Many thanks! Johanna

I haven't checked the UK weather reports for today, but you should expect chilly to cold & rainy in Scotland (based on our June trip several years ago). I suspect it will be too cold for capris and sandals in Scotland. I live in Central FL, and Scotland was much colder than I expected.

Agree to post on the europe board.
But - Scotland will very likely be chilly and rainy. England will be coolish or warmish and have drizzly intervals.
Don;t assume Paris is hot in May. It too may be warmish or coolish (you will probably need a jacket at night) and sandals/Capris may not be warm enough. And yes, you may well get some rain there too.

England is often hot in May - also it's always been warmer and sunnier in Scotland when I've visited, than Paris! Paris has always been cold and raining, even in August! I expect I've just been unfortunate, but it just goes to show that you don't know what to expect! Paris's climate is generally about the same as southern England's. If you want (more or less) guaranteed sunshine, then head for Spain, Portugal, Italy or the South of France.
Hope you find the sunshine, wherever you go!
Sorry, know this isn't really for this board, but thought I'd say ....

The best advice I got when going to Scotland/Ireland/England is to layer and buy silk underwear. Silk underwear is thin, comfortable and warm and can be worn under slacks or a shirt or sweater and you can be warm without a lot of bulk or a jacket for the spring time.

Sorry All: I thought I was on the Europe forum. Thank you all for your prompt responses. I don't need "sunshine" but I guess I will need a bigger suitcase!
When I was in London 4 years ago, around the same time, it was unbelievably hot and no rain .. the same in Paris...guess I was just lucky. I will look for those silk
underwear . Thanks all...Sorry I posted on the wrong board! Happy travels. Johanna

Two wheeled carryons is one too many! How will you pull two suitcases? Don't do it!
I'd ditch the capris (and sandals) in favor of light weight pants. I'd also bring some warmer pants. (Do you wear jeans? I really like my black jeans for traveling, but you have to accept that they probably won't get washed.) If it's hot, buy something to wear there. I'd only bring one nice sweater, a fleece pullover, and a stylish, short rain coat.
Leather jackets are nice because they can do dressy or casual, but not at all practical for rain in the forecast.
