Terminal to Ft lauderdale Beach

My son and friend are returning from a cruise into Ft. Lauderdale on Sat and not flying out until Sun. Thought they might stay someplace at the beach overnight. Does anyone know how far it is from the cruise terminal to the beach. Also would they need a car? Is there any public transportation? Thanks

As the crow flies, it's only a mile. But you've go the port in the way, so it's probably 2+ miles driving. No need for a car for an overnight. They can just take a cab.

Thanks a lot hills27 for the info. Do you also know of an inexpensive hotel ( under $100)? I had found the Sea Club on Travelocity for $85 a night. Any other ideas? Thanks again.

Hotels in that area for under $100 would be extremely tough. I've never heard of Sea Club. Make sure you check it out.

I live in this area part time and have heard good things about the Bahia Cabana Best Western www.bahiacabanaresort.com
Lots of divers use it as a reasonably priced alternative to the increasing upscale beach resorts in Fort Lauderdale.

Pretty good public transportation in that area - www.broward.org/bct Could stay off beach like at the Embassy Suites on th 17th St Causeway and take the city bus to the beach - this hotel is handy to both the port and the airport.
