We're looking into relocating to Las Cruces and what we've read about its weather/climate, temperatures do not go to extremes, with only occasional high 90s in the summer. Its elevation of almost 4000 ft is supposed to help. However, I see that the last week or so have been brutal and this is only June. Could someone who actually reside in the city year round paint me a real picture ?

We've gotten tired of below freezing in the winter and hot humid summers in the northeast.

We do intend to spend some time there before we move.

I live in El Paso--about 30 minutes away-- so can give you a pretty accurate picture. Right now, in El Paso, it is hotter than hades--I think today it was going to be 105. LC should be about the same--maybe 2 degrees cooler. It is DRY however--not humid in the least and that does make a difference. I am very used to the heat here and when i go someplace like Houston I think I am dying! It cools off considerably at night because it is not humid. The winters are very mild. We have a monsoon season that is in july/august. Generally, other than the heat, perfect weather. Also, Las Cruces is just generally a great place!

My daughter lives in Las Cruces. It is a lovely town. However, she tells me that this time of year, she goes out in the AM, gets home before noon, and does not even venture outdoors till the evening, when it's cool and bearable. I've been there several times in the winter, and it's delightful

Why, besides the weather, are you considering Las Cruces?

I'm in Albuquerque, and I wouldn't want to live farther south than, say, Socorro. It's around 95 here today, and that's hotter than I care for!

reasonable taxes, housing cost, city-but still small and not yet congested. Both my spouse and I are retired and have gotten tired of the east coast.
My preference actually is 70s year round, but I can't find a place in the US (besides perfect weather San Diego) that's affordable and where taxes will not impoverish us.

Maybe Las Cruces will work for you, then. Try to spend some time there in more than one season to make sure you'll like it.

DebitNM, we've also visited Silver City, and I like it. My husband does not, mainly because of medical care, just in case we'd need major care in the future. We've talked to a few residents and we were told that for major health care, Las Cruces is where everyone in the surrounding area go to. Thanks.
