Tahoe, where to go, accomodation?
My girlfriend and I are going up to Tahoe for two days. We plan to get a place when we get there (midweek). We would like to do one day snowshoeing/backcountry ski, and the other day
downhill ski. Where should we stay? I've never been in the area, I'm thinking to stay in South Lake Tahoe, but would consider other places. Any recommendation for a nice but not to expensive place to spend the night?

try lakeland Village- they have studios and 1-4 bedrooms with kitchens. Walking distance to stores and resturants (across the street from a micorbrew/pizza) Shuttles to skiing and casinos and the resort has a shuttle.
Look at the "deals" and expedia.
Lakeland Village Beach and Mountain Resort.

There's kind of a small "strip" of casino/hotels on the main road - and the cheapest one is the Horizon. It's not fancy, but if you're looking for a nice, no-frills, not too expensive casino/hotel - I would reccomend that. Plus, you're in walking distance of the other hotel/casinos, with all of their restaurants as well. And, very close to Heavenly's gondola.

I don't know what too expensive is for you but I wiil recommend the Embassy Suites. It's a very nice place, right next door to the casinos but still in CA. Right next to the new gondola at heavenly and next to the new Marriott Grand. It has indoor pool and jacuzzi and breakfast and cocktail hour are included. Internet special going on for mid week is $119.
