Summer weekend in NYC questions

Attending a wedding in July in NYC-mid town. Reception at the Union League Club. My questions include--what hotel do you recommend? Is the Union League a good choice? Also saw the Jolly Madison that had various specials(Including massages) and was nearby. We would come in Friday for a Saturday afternoon wedding. Would love athe best "neighborhood" restaurant within walking distance from there. We tend to prefer not a tourist place but a "find" in one of those neighborhoods nearby. We look forward to the wedding but would like it to be special to us just days after our 35th wedding anniversary! Also if we were to bring our car into the city what would be our parking options that are reasonable? Any other suggestions would be so appreciated! H

Well - this is a private club - not a hotel. And while they do have overnight rooms they seem to be for members and their invited guests. (I don't know how serious they are about this - or if someone in the wedding is a member and could have you invited.)

There seem to be many specific rules and regs in the club - jackets for men at all times, no cell phones etc - and it doesn;t seem to have full hotel services - so not sure if this is what you're looking for. I would get more specifics from whoever in the wedding is a member.

Otherwise - if you give us an idea of budget people can reco hotels. The Club is in primarily a business area - so you might also let us know what neighborhood you prefer - stay on the east side? - for hotels, restaurants etc.

If your hotel doesn;t have a garage you might try icon.com which has a ton of places in the city. Not cheap - but you can get all info and reserve ontheir web site.

For a night in the summer and we will be staying for two (I think July rates are better than other times) we are ready to pay 250 each night depending.

We can stay at the Union League but not sure the "club rules" you describe sound like much fun.

Am interested in the Jolly Madison --has anyone stayed there. And still would be looking for restaurants--neighborhood- that would be special. We sould like to stay near the Union Leage Club area (37th and Park?) as ceremony will also be in that area.

Any other suggestions? H

I was in NYC twice last month - and stayed at two very different places. My favorite was the Sheraton Russell, a boutique Sheraton hotel in midtown on the Park Ave. Safe, quiet and within walking distance to great eating. The Marriott on the upper East Side was more expensive and not as nice. Too noisy and busy! My vote is for the Russell. Have fun!

although you want a neighborhood feel, you still may want to look at some of the mid town hotels walking, buses and taxis can get you any where....

the doubletree at times square has suites so that you are not crammed into one room, i believe it runs about 250/night for a room with 2 double beds, and a sitting room, both rooms have tvs so you can go to bed and let night owls stay up....

I don't necessary need a neighborhood feel for the hotel. We want to be close the the church and reception spot--The union League Club and a church nearby. By neighborhood I was referring to a great find neighborhood restaurant--and not a tourist spot. Any other suggestions on hotels in that 38th st Park Ave area? H

The Shelbourne Murray Hill is a fantastic property on 37th & Lex. Check it out at Affina.com. Murray Hill is one of my most favorite neighborhoods in Manhattan.
