Summer Attire

I will be in Las Vegas for the first time late August for 4 nites. I have heard the temperature could be in the low 100's. Is it proper to wear shorts and sandals in the Casinos.....how about the restaurants, buffets or the shows?

Hi Ed,
Last time we were in Las Vegas in August, it was 114 and 109 each day.
Evenings are weirdly hot.
People do wear shorts and sandals in the casinos during the day, but you might just want to be dressed a little less casually.
They are very air-conditioned, I always need long sleeves or a sweater.
Restaurants-depends on the place. Personally, my husband wears polo shirts and slacks at night (casual) or a long sleeve shirt and black pants (nice)
Shows, some people get dressed up, some don't. If you want to be comfortable, wear a short sleeve shirt and slacks. Save the shorts for the day

Be careful wearing sandals while walking the strip. Mine got extemely hot from the pavement. Better to wear some type of walking shoes with socks, in my opinion. We have been there twice, both times in early June, and our hottest day was 114. Have fun!

I wore sandals and got bitten quite badly by fire ants. So just be careful when you get to cross walks.

I usually wear sundresses with a cardigan thrown over my shoulders or in my handbag for the chilly AC.

You definitely want to take a light sweater into casinos. They are chilly, especially in the summer.
This is just a personal thing, but I won't wear shorts in Vegas past, um, 5pm. Breakfast, lunch, running around the strip..that's fine. But once the sun goes down I think a dress or capri's are more appropriate. I like getting dressed up for dinner and drinks..it makes it a little more special.

have fun!

Plan on temps to be 100 plus during the day and in the 80's thru the night. Shorts and sandals are acceptable in casinos, most all buffets, and most shows. As another respondent said, depending on the restaurant, some dress codes apply - check directly with the restaurant. Casinos (including shows and restaurants) do tend to keep temps cool during the summer months.
