Suggestions for great desert resort nr San Diego?
We will be going to San Diego and renting a car. We would like to spend a couple of days in the desert. We don't golf, but we like hiking, driving around, swimming and to be treated well in a nice surroudning. What are the best high end desert hotels/resorts that you recommend? Thanks

Anza Borrego is in San Diego County and there are places to stay. Hiking is great in the state park. You can hike Palm Canyon or up to Maidenhair Falls. There are many more possibilities for hikes. The State Park Visitors Center has all kinds of information. Here' a link to the state park and to lodging in the area. You will find a whole lot of information on the area if you do a google search.

I've heard great things about Two Bunch Palms in the desert. You might google them for more info and reviews. I would certainly try that out if I had the opportunity. I think it has been featured in some movies....mud baths, etc.

We just got back from Rancho Las Palmas in Rancho Mirage and it was lovely. It should be a 90 minute to 2 hr drive from SD. It is close to alot of desert attractions. I would highly recommend the Indian Canyons for a great desert hike. Go to the Palm Canyon and take the Victor hike. It's approx. 3 miles, not easy, not extreme- you hike through an oasis and a desert. I think it's something like four environment changes you hike through. It's a fantastoc hike and you can go back and relax by a great pool at Las Palmas.

You should look into Seven Springs, It's not a large overly stuffy hotel, but it's clean and neat and very comfortable! A nice little pool, and close to the town, and casinos. And just about 2 miles away you could take the tram up the mountain and hike into beautiful hills and valleys. And their bed are amazing, it's my favorite hotel in palm springs, because of the beds. I really do recommend you stay a night in Palm springs, it's only a 2 mile drive from San Diego.
