San Diego and surrounding area
Just looking for a few days getaway to somplace warm coming up in April. We're totally flexible, we were thinking of San Diego just becuase we've never been there. But, my feeling is not to hang out in the big city, I like wilderness, beautifull scenery, the wineries sound like a good option. Need a pool also and places to take short hikes. What can we see if we fly into San Diego? We've been to LA, been there, not doing it again. Palm Desert sounds nice, how far is that from S. Diego? Thanks! I gotta get moving on the planning!

I really like San Diego but I'd suggest Palm Springs/Palm Desert for a "warm' gettaway! There are great day trips to go hiking...Joshua Tree and also cool places to shop and eat.
I'd suggest flying into Palm Springs but if that is too expensive, fly into Ontario (74 miles) or Orange County (95 miles). San Diego is 144 miles from Palm Springs.

If you want to have a small-town feeling with a beautiful coast-line think about La Jolla which is a suburb to San Diego. San Diego is great, and La Jolla might be a good compromise.
If you want wilderness think about Anza Borrego. The wildflowers will be in bloom. We stayed at the Borrego Springs resort which has a great pool. We can recommend the hotel.

Palm Springs/Palm Desert/Rancho Mirage they are all wonderful in April.
You can take the aerial tram and hike at the top. I think it goes up 5,000 ft?? It was quite a bit cooler at the top.
San Diego will have very nice weather for sight seeing, but not swimming. It should be 60's or 70's, but not 80's. The zoo and Balboa Park are great. As are La Jolla.
Happy planning! & Have a great weekend : )
