suggestions for a great golf weekend in the fall

My husband is turning 50 in Sept. and I would like to surprise him with a Thur-Sun. golf weekend. Any suggestions..keeping in mind he is a very good golfer and I am trying!! We are looking in the mid-upper mid price range. Would appreciate any advice.

OOps, I forgot to say that I am specifically looking at the South Carolina coast areas.

Not quite the SC coast, but what about Pinehurst, NC? They just had the US Open at Pinehurst #2 (there are around 8 courses). Stay at the inn and play to your heart's content.

Hilton Head has fantastic golf and you can still enjoy the beaches there in October. If you go to vacationclub.com and contact the Marriott, you may even get an offer to stay at one of their resorts for a very discounted price (of course you'll have to spend 45 minutes listening to a time-share spiel, but it could save you quite a bit of money). There are fun sights nearby such as Savannah and Beaufort.

I think Pinehurst is well beyond the price range the OP is looking at. And from what I've been told by a 6-handicapper, too hard even for him to enjoy. However he did recommmend Pine Needles(NC) and Kiawah Island (SC).
