Subway to Ellis Island Ferry open?

Will be traveling to NY in June with Family to see Ellis Island. We will need to get from Midtown to the Ellis Island Ferry. What is the status of the subway that used to go there. Is it open yet? If not how do you take public transportation to the ferry. We have a big group so taxi is too expensive and not practical.

The subways are running to downtown. The only stop that is not being used is the stop at the WTC it will need to be rebuilt.

The easiest way to get to Ellis Island is to take the Lex Ave train on the east side or the Broadway train on the west. (Lex, take the 4 or the 5 and the Broadway take the 1)

Both trains stop at or very close to the Staten Island Ferry and the Ellis Island Ferry is a short walk through Battery Park, just follow the signs.

You also might stop in the area and see the memorial to the WTC in BAttery Park.

Also take the Staten Island ferry for a great view of the Statue of Liberty, dusk is the best time.

Have a great time while you are here.

To clarify: South Ferry on the 1 and the 9 is the closest stop (same building as the Staten Island Ferry and not far from the Ellis Island and Statue of Liberty ferries, a short walk along the water and Battery Park). The N and R stop at Whitehall Street, just across the street from the Staten Island Ferry. The 4 and 5 stop at Bowling Green, less than a 5 minute walk from the Staten Island Ferry. You can find on-line subway maps to help oyu make your plans too.

CUlater pretty mich covered all subway options. If you're on the westside of midtown (times sq area), the N,R,1 & 9 are the closest. If you're on the east side, then take the 4 or 5. Any of them get you close to the Battery Park (where you catch the Ellis Island ferry). Go early, it gets very crowded quickly in nice weather.
