We will be going from TS to the TKTS booth in the south street seaport area. Using the subway how do we get there? Please include directions once we are off the subway. We got terribly lost last time. After getting tickets we would like to go to Brooklyn to go to Grimaldi's and the chocolatier we have heard so much about then walk back across the Brooklyn bridge. Ideas on the best way to get to Brooklyn and then directions once there. Any directions would be greatly appreciated.

Subway: Take the A or the C from 8th Avenue & 42nd Street to Broadway/Nassua/Fulton. Walk east on Fulton Street until you hit the Seaport. Ask for directions if you can't find Fulton Street or don't know which way east is.

From the South Street Seaport, take the Water Taxi across the East River to Brooklyn. Grimaldi's is just a block or two up from the ferry landing (on the left). After dining at Grimaldi's, you can walk back to Manhattan across the Brooklyn Bridge.

(Another subway option is to take the shuttle from Times Square to Grand Central and transfer to the 4 or 5, then take the 4/5 to Fulton Street.)

Anyone who gets off the water taxi at Fulton Landing and doesn't stop for a bit of strawberry ice cream right on the docks at the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory is making a BIG mistake. Ice cream can be a great appetizer for Grimaldi's Pizza. Trust me on this.

You have gotten great directions to the South St. Seaport, get off at Nassau St and the A or the 4/5 will get you there.

The Seaport is right at the end of Fulton St, and the TKTS booth is on the back side of the Prudential building on the corner of Fulton and Water St.

An alternative is to enter the subway at 42nd and 7th Avenue. Get on the DOWNTOWN platform . Take a #2 or #3 train to Fulton Street station. Exit the station onto Fulton Street. Walk east on Fulton to its end, around a 10 minute walk. If the first cross street you come to is Broadway you are going in the wrong direction - turn around

Since you will likely have to wait in line for Grimaldi's, I would second the suggestion of getting ice cream from the Ice Cream Factory It is fabulous, and will definitely cool the heat while you're waiting to get in!

You could always get off at City Hall, go left or East, and walk half way over the Brooklyn Bridge.

Once you start walking the Brooklyn Bridge, you'll see South Street Seaport on your right.

Two Fridays ago I arrived at Grimaldi's for lunch at 1pm. No line. My group of 4 sat down immediately at a great table in the front window.

I've waited on line for up to 30 minutes on weekends, however.

What time of day & what day of the week? The Water Taxi weekday and weekend schedules & routes are very different.

From the Water Taxi pier in Brooklyn, facing inland, Grimaldi's is one block up the hill on the main street (Old Fulton). Look for the bright green awning. Jacques Torres Chocolates is two blocks to the left on Water Street, across the street from the old brick warehouses. The Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory is right at the Water Taxi stop...I also highly recommend the Strawberry!

To get to the Bridge walkway, take Old Fulton up the hill about 3 blocks until the fork. Take the left fork (Prospect), go under the bridge, take a right, and the stairway to the BB walkway will be immediately on your right.

Thursday afternoon, hopefully around 1 or 2. How long will it take to walk the bridge? What great directions and so specific. Love the fodors crowd.

20 minutes to get halfway over the bridge. You don't need to walk the entire bridge unless you want to. It is truly a masterpiece.

We have timed it...it takes 20 minutes to cross the bridge w/o stops.

I looked on the Water Taxi website, and found that there is no early afternoon service from Pier 11 (South St Seaport) to Dumbo (Fulton Ferry Landing). However, there are good directions on what to see in Dumbo:

So, you must then either walk, take a taxi, or take the subway from the Seaport to Brooklyn.

Subway: From TKTS, walk north to Fulton St and then inland (west) until you see a subway station. Take the A or C train Brooklynbound 1 stop to High Street. Get off towards the back of the train. Walk down the hill, bearing left, alongside the bridge and after going under some overpasses you'll see the ferry landing on the water. Grimaldis will be on the right, 1/2 block before the water.

Taxi: a very easy option, and perhaps better, since the Seaport TKTS is about 8-10 blocks from the subway. Tell the cabbie to take you to River Cafe in Brooklyn. Most of them know where it is. It's right next to the ferry landing in Dumbo. They might even know where Grimaldi's is. It should cost about $8.

DO NOT trust the water taxi website schedule -- it simply is wrong.

A couple of weeks ago, I was surprised at the lack of Friday service so I called. Sure enough, there was a lunchtime water taxi from the Seaport to Fulton Landing (Grimaldi's) in Brooklyn.

The water taxi is definitely the best way to get to Grimaldi's from the Seaport.

Finally got around to looking at subway map. Would it be possible to take the 2 or 3 from 50th st and get off at Fulton. Tried to call water taxi but only got recording. thanks for all the other ideas we will let you know when we return how we did it. Thanks again

Gekko- Ah, good to know. How do they expect to stay in business if they can't get their schedule posted correctly on the web?!?!

If you walk over the bridge towards Brooklyn, do be sure, near the end of it, to stay towards the left. Once you see the first sign for the subway (A/C) make sure you go that direction! My husband and I made the mistake the first time of thinking there would be another, and it was quite a long way to the end, and put us in an entirely different neighborhood than what we were looking for!

Oops, just re-read the original post and it looks like you will be walking in the other direction. Perhaps the above tip will be helpful to someone else

Wow- you took the long way. When walking the bridge to Brooklyn, look for the stairway on the left (DON'T walk all the way to the end of the pedestrian path, which leaves you in an awful traffic-laden area). Go down the stairs, take a right, then immediately another right across the little park. Cross the street and the A/C entrance is right there. Your route is about an extra 4-block walk.
