Stuck at Hobby Airport/ help?

Ok, so we get off a cruiseship at 8:00 in Galveston and our flight doesn't leave until 3:30 PM (ARGH)
So what can we do until that time? Please don't tell me that we have nothing to do but sit at that airport for hours!
We will have to take a shuttle or taxi from Galveston to Hobby and will have to be theree by 2:30 PM.
Any ideas what we can do in between?

We rented a car (big enough for all of our luggage) and went to the Johnson Space Flight Center when we had time between our cruise and flight home. It was great! Alas, we were the last ones to arrive at the airport and got the worst seats on the plane - rear seats that did not recline, for a flight from Houston to Portland OR. It was a 4 1/2 hour nightmare.

The stores open on The Strand (in Galveston) at 10am. It is a touristy area.

Moody Gardens in Galveston has an IMAX theater and a rain forest.

Kemah (just up I-45) offers lots of restaurants and shopping. You might check out the Boardwalk.

NASA will be on your way back up 45. SpaceCenter is good if you have kiddos with you.

Thanks for the replies. You know, I really hadn't thought about renting a car - didn't know how much of a hassle it would be at the docks - where to get it - would they deliver, etc. But that sounds like the best idea. Do you remember who you rented it through and all the details? Kemah sounds interesting too. No kids this time so will pass on NASA

We rented from Hertz because they were willing to pay for our taxi ride over to their rental office instead of picking us up at the pier. The other rental companies would not pick us up or pay for the taxi.

We did some sightseeing around Galveston & then drove to Hobby & returned the car. We had alot of luggage from a pre-cruise two week road trip so Hertz just drove us to the terminal in the car so we didn't have to ride the bus.

If you opt to go to Kemah, I highly recommend The Aquarium restaurant. I often drive an hour to go there on a pretty day! The crab & shrimp wontons are my favorite appetizer and I've never had an entree there that I didn't love!

Just this past weekend a friend and extended family disembarked at Galveston. One part of the family at 9am and the other part at 2:30 pm
