Stone Have Cottages in Bar Harbor!!

Hello, long time reader, first time poster! After reading more and more about Maine, My girlfriend and I decided to take a trip there in October. I think we are deciding on Stone Haven Cottages, close to both Bar Harbor and Acadia. Does anyone have any input, or reviews of this place. Unfortunately these little B&B type places dont have the super professional websites that we sometimes grow accustomed too, so there isnt many pictures and what not.

any info would be great to hear about!

chipda2nd, I haven't stayed at Stone Haven. Are you looking for a rustic getaway, or more of a hybrid between time in Acadia NP and the town of Bar Harbor with it's restaurants, etc.?

This location is really not terribly convenient for spending evenings in Bar Harbor, and since there are many lodging options much closer to town, if you're looking for a better mix, I'd recommend something more in town.

If you are looking for the rustic out of the way option, maybe another poster can comment on this particular group of cottages.

Bar Harbor is beautiful & Acadia is a wonderful park, so I'm sure you'll have a great trip!

thanks for the response tpatricco! Actually, I am looking for a hybrid type vacation. I've had a really busy time here at work this summer, not much time to ourselves and am looking for that "getting away from it all" feeling. Hence the want to stay in a cabin/cottage type environment. I like the idea of staying on top of the mountain and will hvae my own car. It says it is 4 miles from Downtown Bar Harbor... does that mean "4 miles in a straight line that in no way could you drive it in 4 miles"? I want to be secluded, but will probably spend at least half of the evenings in Bar Harbor for dinner. We plan on buy food and what not to cook at the cottage the other half of the time.

does that paint a better picture for you? Is the location still seemingly inconvienient? also, if its a pain to get to Bar Harbor, is it easier to get to Acadia from Stone Haven?? thanks in advance, and for the previous advice

chip, Acadia isn't a far drive (on a straight road) from Bar Harbor, so if you don't mind driving home from town maybe 10 minutes or so, you're fine at Stone Haven. We prefer to stay in town so we can walk to dinner & back. Especially if we've had a few drinks.

Since this will be your first visit to the area, just wanted to make sure you knew there were more options closer to town. Sounds like you'll be fine where you are.

We did a similar trip a couple summers ago. Needed an inexpensive getaway and took a nice drive up from NJ thru the White Mountains in NH and on to Bar Harbor. It was a great & relaxing trip, and didn't break the bank either!

haha! small world! i'm from south jersey myself, looks like we will be making a similiar trip! Actually, I did not think about the "drinking" part. Not that I'm out to get crazy, but a few drinks with dinner would be nice, especially the way i'm feeling these days. I'm looking to get "nice and relaxed" hehe. Thanks for the input though. Much appreciated. My friend made the trip up to Maine around Moosehead lake last year, said it took him about 11.5 hours, does that sound about right? Honestly I dont care where i stay, just to get in touch with the quiet side of things for a while!

We still would look for a cottage type environment though. Stone Haven seemed nice because some of the others I've researched seem like they are right on top of each other? can you make some other recommendations? where have you stayed?

Chip, I've been to BH twice, once with my family when I was a teen. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Sunspree, which was about a 15 minute walk to town along the main road. (Typical HI Hotel) Two summers ago, when my now husband and I did the roadtrip, (we live in Union right next to Newark) we drove and stayed overnight someplace in NH and then the rest of the way (we took a "senic route" through rural Maine) and then spent 4 days in BH and then drove home, this time along the Maine coast & stayed overnight south of Boston. In Bar Harbor we stayed at the Cadillac Motor Lodge, http://www.cadillacmotorinn.com/ which looked campy and we liked the location right on the end of Main Street in BH. It was clean, simple, inexpensive accomodations, and since we were only there to sleep & shower it was good. We drove to Acadia, but walked everyplace during the evenings. There was a great place right across the street for breakfast too. Awesome blueberry pancakes, etc.
