places to stay outside of bar harbor
Hello,
We had planned on staying in Bar Harbor, but now are realizing that it is really the park we want to see and not all the crowds in Bar Harbor. Any ideas for staying in a quieter area and not worrying too much about going into Bar Harbor?

Hi and the 'quietside' of Mount Desert Island - Bass Harbor, Southwest, Manset, Bernard, Seal Cove, Seawall, Tremont. All of these locations are close to the less travelled parts of Acadia but near enough so that you can go into Bar Harbor if you must or just pick up the essentials in Southwest Harbor Village. Try acadiachamber.com or acadiamagic. Have a great vacation.

When are you going? We were just in Bar Harbor over the 4th and really did not find it to be too crowded (except the night of the 4th when everyone was downtown to see the fireworks). We stayed at the house on the property of the Atlantic Oakes. It's maybe 1/5 miles from downtown, on the water, and very close to the main Acadia visitor center.
We also drove through all of the towns mentioned above. All were very beautiful so I don't think you can go wrong.

Thanks to all. I think we will just stay with our original motel, even though it is in the center of bar harbor. We plan to spend most of our time at the park and driving around anyway. Just surprised that for a motel it would be so expensive!! This will be a good exploration trip and then on our next trip we can try something different.
